Wow! We have had a great year in Kindergarten. I am so very proud of all the hard work we have accomplished. Thanks to all the parents for all your support and most of all for sharing your child with us . Missing the last week of school was hard for me, but I know the children were in good hands. It was wonderful getting to meet my new grandson, and spend time with my daughter and family. Please keep your child writing this summer, and reading. These are new skills and need to be practiced often to retain them. It doesn't matter what they write about, just as long as they are practicing what they were taught. Remind them what good writers do, start each sentence with a capital, use spaces between words, punctuation at the end. They should be able to write 3-5 sentences on a specific topic. We have very good writers in our class, so keep up the good work. I wanted to remind you of the media center hours this summer. June 2 and 4, 10-12, June 9 and 11, 10-12, and June 16 and 18, 10-12.  I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe summer.

Parents, All kindergarten children at Garrison Mill are very busy this time of year learning all the songs for our annual production of Under The Sea. You will be hearing more about what your child needs to wear, or learn for  this play very soon. Ask your student to sing you some of the songs, I am sure they can sing at least  one of the NINE  that we are working on! We are also hard at work making many surprises for our  Muffins for Mom on friday, May 2 at 8:30. If you cannot come, a sister, aunt, neighbor, or grandmother can come in your place.

In addition to all of our themed projects, we are writing everyday, and learning addition. We will be testing on number writing #0-30, and on our exemplars (story problems), and grading their end of the year writing sample. There is a lot going on this time of year, so please make sure that your child is well rested, and has nutritious snacks every day so that they can be at their best! Thank you to all of our volunteers for centers this year, we really appreciate your time. Our last centers will be on April29, and 30th. I will not be in the classroom for the last week of school, as my daughter is having a c-section for her her baby (boy) on May 19th, in Connecticut. I will have to say goodbye to my students on May 16th. Ava Simmons will be my sub for the whole week.  The last week of school, we will have a different theme each day. You will get more coming home on that later. Thanks for all you do!!! Marj Satterthwait

Happy Spring Everyone! I can't believe Spring is here already. We had a great time at the annual egg drop, and the egg hunt, thank you parents for sending everything in on time. We have been busy learning about what comes from an egg, as well as seasons, seeds, and plants. We have had fun learning how to skip count by 2, 5, and 10. Ask your child about the beach ball game. Please keep up with the news on the back of the behavior sheet, as we will have a lot of dates to remember. We are focusing on writing good sentences on topic, then editing them. This means we look for capital letters at the beginning, spaces, and periods, or question marks, or exclamation marks in appropriate places! I am very proud of the work  we have done so far this year, they have come a long way since August! We still have a ways to go so please make sure your child is well rested as we push on to finish all the work we have to get them ready for first grade. Some important dates coming up;  May 2-Muffins for Mom @ 8:30, May 5,7,8 -rehearsals for "Under the Sea" program, May 8-retirement party for Mrs. Wilson,  May 12- dress rehearsal for "Under the Sea",  May 13- "Under the "Sea" kindergarten program in the cafeteria @ 8:30, May 14- field day (wear class shirt), and May 15 - Laughing Matters performing arts program. Dear Parents. We had a wonderful time at the farm today! A big thank you to all our wonderful parents who came with us. We enjoyed seeing Rosie the cow and all the other animals. We will be writing about our experiences at the farm next week. We had a very successful curriculum night last week, as we had the most parents of any "K" classroom! It was fun to see all the problem solving going on. Kindergarten is harder than you thought. We have all shopped at the school store this week, after accomplishing our money unit. I am very proud of them, as this is a hard concept. Keep working on making money exchanges so they won't forget. We will still work on this for the rest of the year also. Our next unit will be about bunnies, chicks, and eggs starting next week. Today we have sent home letters about the egg drop, and the plastic eggs for our egg hunt. These will both be next Friday, March 21. The egg drop will be at 9:15 at the bus slots, and the egg hunt at 11:15, followed by fun centers. That day is also picture day, our sitting time is 8:30. A big thank you to all our center parents, we really appreciate your time.

Hi Parents, We have been very busy as we continue our mastery of money. I would like to thank everyone for sending in money for your child to practice with. When we feel that they have mastered all of the standards, we will let the class shop at the school store for their reward. Please practice at home with exchanges, adding coins together, and finding different ways to make the same value. Next, we will turn our kitchen area into a market, with bags of groceries for the children to partner, and play clerk and shopper. We are very excited about our High-Touch-High Tech in house field trip today where we will learn about rocks and soil. These field trips are very interactive and hands on. Please ask your child to tell you about it. Our next unit will be on dinosaurs. The children love this unit, and will get to make fossils, and of course an active volcano . We are looking forward to Do-nuts for Dad which is Friday, Feb. 29 at 8:30 a.m. until 9:15 in our classroom.  G.M. will have a Read Across America Day on March 3. The whole school is invited to wear pajamas, robes, and slippers, We will have guest readers at different times of the day , so if you would like to read to our class, let me know when would be a good time for you that day. On March 6 the school will be hosting Curriculum Night, along with a PTA meeting at 6:30. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to come in the classroom, and do some fun centers with your child, we would love to have 100% turnout.! Thanks for all you do to help your child be successful. Where did January go? We have had a great month in Kindergarten, with lots of learning centers going on! We made and ate several different kinds of snowmen. Not only were they yummy, but we assembled them using two dimensional, and three dimensional shapes like circles, cylinders, rectangles, squares, and cubes, and spheres. In February we will be studying bears, presidents, money, measurement, and time. Look for homework to come home in these areas. Everything we teach is related to a Georgia Performance Standard. If you ever have any questions about these standards, please don't hesitate to ask. It was great to see all the parents at conference time. Thank you for taking the time to come and speak with me, and for taking such a great interest in your child's education!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a restful break. January is a very busy month. We started off with a fun interactive performing arts program that I hope your child told you about. We made our new years resolutions that are on our bulletin board in the classroom. We will be reading some of author Jan Brett's books, with follow up literacy activities in our centers. Please ask your child to retell you the stories as you see the work come home. We will also be doing a lot of snowman math, and winter olympics that will be lots of fun filled learning. I will be testing the students on all skills we have had so far for report cards, and then for GKAP .  The Six Flags reading club papers were sent home, please keep these handy so you can record your time reading with your child. Please note the date these are due back, as none will be accepted after this date. Dates to remember: Jan. 21, no school MLK day, Jan 22-28 is conference week, and early dismissal at 12:20.
