Please remember that the children may wear their pajamas this Tuesday for the special movie/donuts/drinks.  Our ENTIRE CLASS met the AR requirements this time.  Way to go, class!  You deserve to celebrate!

MATH~We are currently working on regrouping in subtraction.  The children have had an easy time grasping this difficult math concept.  Have they told you the story of Baby, Bully, and Big Daddy?  It's a cute way to tell if regrouping is necessary in math problems.  Ask them about it.  We are also beginning to study plane shapes, angles, sides, and vertices in a unit on Geometry.  The vocabulary is difficult but, with a little practice, I am confident that they will master it.

LANGUAGE ARTS~We will be going back to small reading groups to practice the jobs we learned in Literature Circle.  The terms you will be hearing are Connector, Summarizer, Artful Artist, Word Finder, and Discussion Director.  Within our small groups we will be seeing how all of these jobs come together for discussion and for a more in depth study of the books we read.

SITTON/ENGLISH~We are going to do our last unit of this grading period this week.  There will be NO Sitton unit next week.  We are working on adding suffixes to words, making plurals, and looking more at homophones. 

SOCIAL STUDIES~We are studying historical figures who have had an impact on Georgia.  James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove are the people we are learning about this grading period.  Look for our index card books in the hallway soon.

AR Point Rewards~The grading period ends on December 19th.  As a special treat to the children who have met the goal of 6 pts. , we will be watching a movie on the Tuesday that we get back from Winter Break.  These children may wear their pj's as they eat donuts and sip juice.  What a great way to ease back into school after a two week vacation!  We are hoping that this motivates them and that we will have 100% participation this time!  WE LOVE READING!!

The BOOK FAIR will be in the Media Center this week.  Hours are from 8 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  It will be open until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and close at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.  Please stop by and see the wonderful selections at great prices!  There are many great stocking stuffers, birthday gifts, and books to add to any child's (and adult's) collection.

On the board in the Media Center you will find delicious sweet treats that are being auctioned off for Relay for Life.  You might enjoy putting in a bid on one of these items.  With the holidays just around the corner, it is always nice to have a wonderful dessert to serve company.  All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

I will be sending home detailed AR reports this Thursday.  The children have only until December 19th to earn their 6 points for this grading period.  Please encourage them to get busy!!!  We have several children who have qualified early for the movie/treat....Ian, Maddie, Emma, Matt, and Erica!  Congratulations!  You are all such hard workers!

Once again, THANK YOU for the monthly donations collected by our room moms.  I have used much of the funds to buy items for the treasure box, buy supplies for the room, or treats for the class.  Should you have any things that you feel the kids might enjoy having in the treasure box, please feel free to send them in with your child. 

Hope to see you all at our Thanksgiving luncheon this Friday.  The skit will start at 11:00.  Lunch is at 11:25.  You may take pictures with your family right after lunch.  Be prepared to see some budding actors/actresses!

The Grandparents/Special Friends Thanksgiving Luncheon for our class is on FRIDAY, NOV. 21st at 11:25.  I was in error in my last post when I wrote that it was on Thursday.  Please make note of the time/date.  We will put on a short skit in our room at 11:00 that morning.  Hope to see you there!

WILLIAM R. celebrated his 8th birthday today!  The children enjoyed the special treat provided by William and his family!

On Friday, we will have some special Fall Centers from 12:15-1:15 hosted by our moms.  A HUGE "thanks" to all of you who have helped organize, plan, teach, donate to, and supervise these centers.  Your time and efforts are so appreciated!  You are all welcome to come and join us!

You have been receiving invitations from the office about our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon.  This is a great time for grandparents, parents, and other friends and relatives to have a holiday meal here at GM.  Our day and time is on Thursday, Nov. 2Oth at 11:25 a.m. We will have a short skit presentation beginning at 11:00 a.m. in our room prior to lunch.  PLEASE MAKE A SPECIAL EFFORT TO COME! 

The Media Center will be open on Monday, Oct. 27th from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. to host a night of reading and AR with your child.  Take advantage of this great opportunity and help your child earn those AR points early for this grading period.  The goal for 2nd Grade is 6 points!
