Finally we are up and running! Here is what we are working on:
Math- Students are using place value to help them add and subtract. They are also learning to solve addition and subtraction problems within 1000. They are also beginning to work on their problem solving skills.
Reading- The class is learning the steps of Guided Reading and we will be ready for our first rotation this week. They will meet with me to practice specific reading skills, work on their "Wordly Wise", and visit individual workstations. We will be taking the STAR reading test Tuesday the 27th. The students will have a card that will help them choose appropriate leveled AR books.
Writing-The students are learning about Writer's Workshop and how it will help them become better writers. We will be reading a book by Ralph Fletcher that explains what true writers do. It is a great book!
Social Studies- We are finishing up with Maps and Globes and will begin our unit on Greece and its impact on our modern democracy.
Language Arts/Spelling- The students will be reviewing nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives. They will be making a flipbook that will be kept in their interactive journal so they can reference it at anytime. The spelling sorts for the next two weeks will be long vowel patterns VCC-igh, open syllables-y,-ay,-ew,-ow and r-influenced vowel patterns-ar, ir, or, ur.
