Labor Day Weekend

Hello to all! I hope you are enjoying this beautiful, long weekend as much as I am. We will have a short but full week, so let me bring you up to date.

Spelling-we will continue lond and short vowel spelling patterns. This week is the /ou/ sound. The new spelling words are often, together, asked, house, and don't. In Language Arts we are working on word meanings, prefixes-suffixes, verb agreement, and pronouns. We continue to review the basics, nouns, verbs, adjectives etc.

Guided Reading/Writing-On Tuesday we will begin our Guided Reading/Centers Rotation. The students will meet with me in their small reading group, work on independent reading and writing work with the focus on responding to Traditional Lit. and visit the 12 individual centers. The rotation goes for 3 weeks and then begins again with new materials based on what we are working on.

Social Studies- We are finishing up with Ancient Greece. The students are completing buildings they created on construction paper using columns the way they were used in Greek architecture. They will include answers that summarize the unit.

A few reminders for you. We are collecting Box Tops, so send in any you have. Also, our Fun Run will be on October 3rd during the Fall Festival. If we have the most students register to run, we can win a pizza party! If a student registers 6 corporate sponsors, they will win an Xbox/Wii/DS game of their choice, so be thinking about that.

As always, if you have any questions or need anything, please let me know.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.
