Spring is Here

Dear Parents:

As spring approaches, please continue to encourage your children to complete their homework.  I do want your child to have play time; however, teaching in school continues until the end. Thank you.

Wednesday, March 26th is the fourth grade writing assessment which is a practice before having the 5th grade writing assessment.  This will be given in the morning so please attempt to have all your children here.

We are continuing to learn and master goals; however, we are also preparing for the upcoming CRCT.  Perserverance is the key word for success of the tests.  We are continually talking to the children about demonstrating effort and perservering to achieve.  Reminder: CRCT begins on April 23rd.  Please have your children here at school each morning.

All the students are reading chapter books in class now as well as doing their other work.  We are encouraging reading as much as possible.

Thank you for all of your support.  This has been a great year so far.  Let's have it continue until the end of the school year.

Respectfully,

Gail Robertson

Dear Parents,

We have been very busy learning during the last two weeks.  Although many people have been out sick, I think most are healthy now.  I hope that you are all feeling better.  If your child missed any work, please be sure that they complete the necessary make-up work given to them.  This will help them be prepared for any future lessons.

The students are all very busy preparing to conclude their research reports in social studies.  As a concluding activity, a letter is coming home explaining that each student should make a paper doll of the famous person they selected to research.  I am asking that you send one half piece of poster board to school.  The students will be given a pattern to copy to make their doll.  Afterwords, they will take it back home to turn it into an example of their person.  This is a home activity since they did the writing at school.

In reading, we continue to practice comprehension skills and review strategies that will help them during the testing time.

In math, we are reviewing multi-digit multiplication and division and learning decimals.  Please practice those math facts.  They must know them this year!

We continue to practice for the future testing.  Many students are making progress.

I will be meeting soon with many people in the near future to have IEP meetings. Before we know it, the school year will be ending.  We are already planning for next year as well as the remaining part of this school year.

Please contact me if you should have any concerns.

Respectfully,

Gail Robertson

Preparing to Succeed

Dear Parents:

Your students are preparing to succeed by continuing to learn.  I am very proud of the students' achievements on the standards, goals, and objectives.  We continue to challenge them to perform each and every day.

Currently, we are really concentrating on writing and research.  As we enter spring, we continue to review skills as well as introduce new skills.  The students are learning note taking skills that will be used when we begin the social studies research report next week.  They are ready and prepared to face that challenge.  Also, the students are writing about a hero.  It is such a thrill to see how many students selected a parent as their hero.  You should be proud that you have done such a good job parenting your child.

Be sure to practice for the CRCT test with the on-line link.  It is such a benefit for a child to be familiar with the test format before actually taking it.  We are practicing test taking strategies here at school too.  If you have any questions, feel free to email Jenny or myself.

                                                                       Respectfully,

                                                                       Gail Robertson

December News

Dear Parents:

Thank you for supporting your children.  I am seeing some real improvement in math problem solving and reading.  The students have been enjoying our planned activities, and they are working well.

For your information, I will be out for the remaining days in December due to surgery.  I have a certified teacher as a supply teacher that is very qualified to take my place during my absence.  If you should have any questions or concerns during my absence, please email Mrs. Hohn.  I will return in January so I will be back before the students return after winter break.

Have a wonderful and restful holiday, and I look forward to seeing everyone after the holidays.

                                                                              Respectfully,

                                                                              Gail Robertson

Holidays are coming!

Dear Parents:

Wow!  It's hard to believe the holidays are upon us.  We did enjoy seeing most of you or grandparents at the luncheon on Friday.  We had great fun, and we enjoyed having the students read poetry.  As you were able to notice, the students have been working on their reading fluency.

We have been busy working on the 4th grade standards, and the students have made great progress.  While learning, the students have also been having a lot of fun.  Mrs. Hohn and I have been working to vary the activities and make everything the students do meaningful to them.  We have really been enjoying your sharing your children with us this year.  Thank you.

Don't forget to keep the students working.  I know that the holidays get busy, but we will continue working until we get out.  We still have a book reflection due on November 30th.  The students have the handout to follow so ask for it if you have not already seen it.  It provides all the information that is needed to complete the reflection.

Thank you for your support.  The sound instruments the students made were great.  They enjoyed writing about them, and they shared their instruments with the class members.  They were all proud, and all students praised everyone.

Have a safe and restful holiday.

Respectfully,

Mrs. G. Robertson

Rolling Along

Dear Parents:

This week has been a week full of activities.  Because it was Red Ribbon Week at school, the children got to hear and see how Cobb County uses dogs to help them fight drugs. Your children were also learning many new things.  This week we were continuing to use the Promethean board in class. The children really love it!  It is difficult to imagine who much technology they now learn in school.  They also continue to improve their math facts and problem solving skills. They saw a math magician this week which was a real treat. In reading, we have been completing books and projects in class.  Additionally, we wrote letters to our soldiers.  The children have also learned so much about simple machines and how they make our lives easier.  As you can see, we stayed busy.

On October 31st, your child may wear pajamas and take a stuffed animal to school.  The class has earned a compliment so they voted to have it be pj day.

Reminder:  Please walk your child into school and sign her/him in at the PTA desk if he/she arrives after 7:55.  Also, if there are transportation changes for how your child goes home, please call or come by before 1:45 in the afternoon.  Thank you

                                                                            Respectfully,

                                                                            Gail Robertson

Keep Learning

Dear Parents:

Education is important, and I know that all of you are aware of this fact.  The first 9-weeks grading period has ended, and so the report cards will be coming home on Monday, October 22, 2007.  Please take this time to talk to your children, and have them realize that you know the importance of education.  Too often we are busy in our lives, and we take it for granted that our children understand how we feel.  I am proud of the students although I must remind parents to keep working with your children to help them achieve to their potential.  We as teachers are teaching the standards that will help your children be successful in the future.

Thank you again for your support in helping to educate your child.

Reminder  For the safety of all students, please sign your child in if he/she arrives after 7:55  Also, there are no transportation changes or dismissals after 1:45.

                                                                               Respectfully,

                                                                              Gail Roberson

Dear Parents:

What a fun week it was!  The students were very busy learning multiplication and division in math.  They have really mastered those math journals.  Oh!  And speaking of journals, your children are enjoying the letter home journal responses that you have been writing.  Keep up the good work!  It encourages your child to want to write each week.  I think many of them wrote about our visitor in the class this week.  It was Reeses, a pet guinea pig of one of the students.

The students have been working on mastery of the 4th grade standards.  Keep them busy with reading those books at home.  We have them reading and writing at school, but the reading practice at home reinforces what they are learning.

October 16th is the end of the first 9-weeks grading period.    Reminder,  picture day is on October 16th, and early release day is October 17th.

It was great seeing so many of you at the Fall Festival last week.  Hope you enjoyed yourselves; I know that I did.

                                                                                  Respectfully,

                                                                                  Gail Robertson
