We have had a great week with our “All About Me” unit. Your child has been able to share their many likes and dislikes, helping them to understand their own uniqueness. We will continue next week to explore “My Senses” and how they help us to learn. There are two simple homework projects that we will have next week. Your child will be asked to bring in an object as an example of a texture and contribute some tidbits to taste for our “Tasting Party” on Friday the 15th. This topic will also provide for the introduction to informational texts. Students need to understand the differences between fiction and non-fiction books. Literary texts are often for pleasure and entertainment, while the purpose of non-fiction is to inform. We will read several books during this unit which will support their understanding that non-fiction helps us to learn new information about things.
The children are working hard during Math Work stations. Most of our work is done through hands-on investigative activities, so you will not necessarily see a lot of “paper work” come home. Please help your child with proper numeral formation by referring to the Number Writing Poems that will be added to their Poetry Notebook. Say the poem out loud each time your child writes to assure proper direction.
Thanks again for your support.
Have a great weekend!
