Class News Letter

October1

Dear Parents,

Our Letter Person for next week is Mr. J with his jumbled junk sound.  Our Words of the Week are BROWN and ORANGE. Tomorrow I will assess  all the students who are not on the red section of the rainbow.  In math we are continuing our study of the numbers 0-5 and discovering which has more or fewer and how many more.  In Social Studies we will study Columbus Day and why we celebrate it.  We will also study our friends.

Tomorrow is Hat Day and for a donation of $1.00 students may wear a hat in school all day.  The money raised will go to our school's Relay for Life team.  This is our staff team that donates the money raised for cancer research.

Here are some important dates coming up:

--Picture Day is Tuesday.

--Early Release is Wednesday.

--Report Cards come home on Thursday.

--October 22nd Box Tops are due.

Have a JOYFUL WEEK.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Thanks for the apples today.  We did a floor graph and found that most children liked red apples best.  Tomorrow we will make apple pizzas and cook them down in the kitchen.  They are yummy.

Next week we will meet Mr. N with his noisy nose sound.  Our Words of the Week will be BLUE and GREEN.  These are our "orange" words on the rainbow word list.  All the words for this 9 weeks are the color words.  I will retest the children tomorrow for the "red" words.  Some are just missing one or two words.  Keep up the practice.  We are seeing progress.

Our Fall Festival is tomorrow from 5:00-8:00.  The Fun Run for Kindergarten is at 6:00. I will be there to cheer all of the boys and girls on.  I hope to see you all there.

In math we are studying numbers from 0-5.  State Standards say that students will connect numerals to the quantities they represent.  Students will compare two or more sets of objects (1-10) and identify which set is equal to, more than, or less than the other.

Next week we will study different careers and include fire safety and fire escape plans for home.  Please go over the fire safety survey and discuss two exit plans from your home with your child.  This is a safety precaution to protect your child.  State standards say that students will describe the work that people do (police officer, fire fighter, soldier, mail carrier, baker, farmer, doctor, and teacher).

Have a NIFTY week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Next week we will meet Miss A with her ah-choo sound.  She is our first Letter girl; all  of the vowels are Letter girls.  Our Words of the Week are RED and BLUE.  I assessed all the children last week on the first 10 "red" words and only 4 students knew them all.  Please review these words nightly with your child.  If you have  lost the list, please contact me.  For the next 6 weeks, we will be studying the "orange" words which are 10 color  words.  I will retest the students on the first 10 words tomorrow.

We will continue our study of fall and the seasons.  Next week we will send a note asking for each child to bring in their favorite apple.  We will graph them and cook them in apple pizzas. Please send the favorite apple by Thursday.

In math we are continuing our study of patterning.  The state standard says that students will identify, create, extend, and transfer patterns from one representation to another using actions, objects, and geometric shapes.

Our class really  needs daily center help.  If you can find time to volunteer, please let us hear from you.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to see how your child is doing in school.

Have an AWESOME week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Next week we will be studying the seasons with an emphasis on Fall.  This is certainly appropriate since the first day of fall is Monday.  Our Letter Person of the Week will be Mr. C with his cotton candy sound.  Our Words of the Week are UP and MY.  We are continuing our investigation of patterning in math.  Tomorrow will be our in-school field trip with High Touch, High Tech.  We will be having hands-on experiments with our Five Senses.  We will be assessing the students on the "red" words on Monday.  Please practice with them so that we can move to the "orange" words during our second six week period.  These are the Rainbow words that I distributed at Open House.  If you do not have this list, please  notify me.

Our specials time(music, art, P.E.) will be changed just for next week due to third grade testing.  Our time will be from 9:30-10:10.  If you are a classroom volunteer, please don't come until 10:15.

Our in-school postal system begins delivery this coming Monday.  You could send your child a letter through this Wee Deliver system.  Just attach some sort of sticker for a stamp and address the letter to your child.  Our class address is 104 Thunder River Road-Happy Gap, GA. 30001.  Children are delighted to get mail.  The mailbox is in the lobby for your dropoff.

Our students have been buying extras, such as cookies, at lunch.  They cost 60 cents.  This is coming out of their lunch account.  I wanted to make you aware of this in case you would like to put a block on purchasing extras.  Please call the cafeteria or send us a note.  We are just not sure if this is fine with you parents.

I have entered all the email addresses that I have into this system and you should be getting a notification about signing up for our blog.  Please click on the link and signup and you will automatically get my weekly blogs.  It would be great if you could email me to let me know if you are receiving my blog.

Please remember to send in on Mondays a clean towel, the Poem and Song Notebook, and the Kinder Keys Folder.  Tomorrow our rotating special is P.E.

Have a COLORFUL week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Thanks to the parents who have been helping in our room during center times.  However, we need more help.  We have every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday open for the rest of this month.  In October, we have every Thursday and Friday open and two Wednesdays(14th and 21st). If you can manage to come one day it will be greatly appreciated.  This will give you an opportunity to see how your child is doing in Kindergarten.  Our time is 9:15-10:45.  Please email me or write me a note.  We love having dads, grandmas and grandpas also.

Next week we wit Mr. T with his tall teeth sound.  Our Words of the Week are IT and ME.  Next Tuesday is an Early Release Day and the students will be dismissed at 12:30.  ASP will begin right at 12:30.  We will have our High Touch, High Tech in-school field trip next Friday.  We will be performing hands-on experiments with our Five Senses.  In math, we are continuing the study of patterns.State standards say that students will identify, create, extend, and transfer patterns from one representation to another using actions, objects, and geometric shapes. We will also begin the study of the seasons beginning with fall.

Have a TANTALIZING week.
