Dear Parents,

Tomorrow promises to be an exciting day.  The children can bring their costumes and change into them at school.  After our Halloween centers are over, they will change back into normal school clothes.  Thanks to all who have contributed items for our centers.  We appreciate you.  We also appreciate Mrs. Mosher, Mrs. Brown, and my husband for helping out at centers tomorrow.

Our theme for the whole month of November will be "Long Ago and Today." This, of course, will include the study of Pilgrims and Indians and comparisons of the times.  Our State standards say that students will identify the purpose of national holidays and describe the people or events celebrated. In math, we will finish the study of numbers and begin the study of geometry.  State standards say  that students will correctly name simple two and three-dimensional figures, and recognize them in the environment.

Our Words of the week are AND, BIG, and CAN.  I will start assessing the "orange" words on Monday. These words are the color words.  Please start studying the "yellow" words.  If you don't have the list, please let me know.  Next  week  we will meet Mr. P with his pointy patches sound.

Here are some important dates and events:

-Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, Nov. 2nd.

-Student Holiday on Tuesday,  Nov. 4th.

-Grandparents' Day Luncheon will be Nov. 19th at 11:35.  After lunch, all guests are invited back to our classroom for some entertainment.  Pictures with grandparents and the Book Fair will be in the media center.  Please   plan on going to these activities after our program in the room.

-Practice the "yellow" words on the Rainbow Word List.

-PTA meeting on Thursday, Nov.  6th, at 6:30.  The 3rd grade will perform.

Have a PERFECT week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Thanks for the apples today.  We did a floor graph and found that most children liked red apples best.  Tomorrow we will make apple pizzas and cook them down in the kitchen.  They are yummy.

Next week we will meet Mr. N with his noisy nose sound.  Our Words of the Week will be BLUE and GREEN.  These are our "orange" words on the rainbow word list.  All the words for this 9 weeks are the color words.  I will retest the children tomorrow for the "red" words.  Some are just missing one or two words.  Keep up the practice.  We are seeing progress.

Our Fall Festival is tomorrow from 5:00-8:00.  The Fun Run for Kindergarten is at 6:00. I will be there to cheer all of the boys and girls on.  I hope to see you all there.

In math we are studying numbers from 0-5.  State Standards say that students will connect numerals to the quantities they represent.  Students will compare two or more sets of objects (1-10) and identify which set is equal to, more than, or less than the other.

Next week we will study different careers and include fire safety and fire escape plans for home.  Please go over the fire safety survey and discuss two exit plans from your home with your child.  This is a safety precaution to protect your child.  State standards say that students will describe the work that people do (police officer, fire fighter, soldier, mail carrier, baker, farmer, doctor, and teacher).

Have a NIFTY week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols and Bonny Pearson
