Class News Letter

Train2

Dear Parents,

We are enjoying our study of different types of transportation.  Next week we will study maps, globes, and where we were born.  State standards say that students will be able to locate the North and South poles, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the seven continents, North America, the continental U.S., and Alaska and Hawaii.  Thank goodness we have songs which will teach us many of these standards.

Geometry is our next unit in math.  Solid shapes(sphere and cube) and plane shapes(circle, square, triangle, and rectangle) will be studied.  This is always a fun  unit.  Next week our Letter of the Week is  the Letter Girl, Miss E, who likes to exercise.  Our words of the Week are LOOK and WE.

Tomorrow is a school wide bake sale for Relay for Life, our faculty charity. Treats are 50 cents each.  Also, for the privilege of wearing your own hat all day in school, a donation can be made in the cafeteria of $1.00.  All proceeds go to cancer research.  Tomorrow night is Parents Night Out for Relay for Life.  Reservations for this should have already been made.

Have an ENERGETIC week.

Sincerely,

Phylis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson           Hotballoon2

Dear Parents,

I am so happy that so many of you came to our Grandparents' Day Luncheon.  Mrs. Ennis and Mrs. Pearson said that the students did a great job and we're so proud of them.  Thanks for your support.

I want to thank all of you for the fabulous birthday I had on Monday.  Mrs. Hewitt brought chocolate brownie cake and ice cream and we all enjoyed the food.  She gave me a lovely orchid plant that I will try to keep healthy.  I truly appreciate the generous gift certificate to Chico's, one of my favorite stores.  I'll be using it over this long holiday weekend.  Thanks again for your kindness towards me.

Next week we will meet Mr. G with his gooey gum sound.  Our Words of the Week are COME and  GO.  These are very appropriate words since we will be studying different types of transportation in social studies.  State standards say that students will be able to describe different modes of transportation and recognize the role that each plays in transporting people and goods.   We will also be studying gravity in science.  State standards say that students will observe and communicate effects of gravity on objects.  We will also discuss maps and globes and establish where each student was born.  State standards say that the student will be able to identify the location of the student's birth on the map.  Next Friday, our special is ART.

Have a GIVING week and a relaxing, joyful holiday.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

We are so excited about our Grandparents' Day luncheon tomorrow.  Our scheduled lunch time is 10:55.  Please meet us in the lobby as we head down to the cafeteria.  When lunch is over we will meet everyone in the cafeteria and come to our room for some entertainment.  Afterwards grandparents may take their grandchildren to the media center for pictures, or to purchase books at the Book Fair, or to make a bid on some of the teachers' delightful desserts for Thanksgiving.  This auction is a fund raiser for our charity, Relay for Life.  I am sorry but I will not be here tomorrow.  Our family planned a mountain retreat before school started and before the luncheon schedule was changed.  You will be in the very capable hands of Mrs. Ennis, Mrs. Pearson, and my substitute, Beth Caldwell.

Next week we will not have a new Letter Person.  Our Word of the Week is LIKE.  It is not on the sight word list but I'm picking it because the children use it so much.  We will spend those two days continuing our study of the Pilgrims and Indians. There will also be no Show and Tell next week.

We would like to welcome two new students to our class, Alexis Eck from Florida and Trent Campbell from Oklahoma  We are so glad to have them.  From now on Mrs. Ennis will be in our room all day except for a 40 minute period that she assists Mrs. Rodgers.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Phyllis, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Tonight is the fourth grade performance after P.T.A.  This all begins at 6:30 this evening.

Next week our Letter Person is Miss I with her itchy itch sound.  She is a girl and, therefore,  a vowel.  If the students can tell me first thing in the morning the name of our new letter person, they will earn a sticker for their chart.  Our Words of the Week are IT and MY.  For the next two weeks we will be studying Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, and Indians.  State standards say that the learner will be able to introduce and discuss the Pilgrims, the Mayflower, Plymouth Rock, and Thanksgiving Day.  State standards further say that students will be able to discuss the relationship between the Pilgrims and Indians and compare and contrast them.  In math we are continuing to study the numbers 0-10 and compare numbers using the terms more, less, fewer, same, and equal.  We are also making different ways to show numbers, such as 4 red blocks and 5 green blocks make 9 blocks.  These are activities getting students ready for addition.

JUST SOME REMINDERS:

Tomorrow is the LAST day to send in an old undershirt for me to dye and turn into an Indian costume.

Habitat Day is this Saturday, November 10th, beginning at 9:00 AM.  This is a day spent cleaning up our school grounds.  Thanks in advance for your help.

You received a letter today about our Star Giving Tree.  Please reply if you and your child are interested in participating.

Tomorrow is the final day for reservations for Grandparents'  Day Luncheon.  Our lunch will be on Friday, November 16th, at 10:55.  Please return to our room after lunch for some entertainment.  If grandparents want professional pictures made, please wait until after our entertainment.  We will give everyone time to go and have pictures taken then.

Have an INVENTIVE week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Thanks to all the parents who volunteered their time or donations for our Pumpkin Centers.  We all had a great time and managed to learn and review many of our skills.  Thank you again.

Next week we will meet Mr. P with his pointy patches sound. Our Words of the Week are PLAY and IN.  We are studying Community Helpers this week and next week. State standards say that the learner will be able to describe the roles of community helpers who produce goods and/or services including firefighters, police officers, doctors, dentists, bus drivers, and farmers.  There are many standards the students will be taught since we will be learning about early times in America.  Therefore, tomorrow we will be sending homework which will be due on Wednesday, Nov. 7th.  Standards say that the learner will be able to identify the location of the student's birth on a map and locate where we currently live and locate North America.  Please help your child with this simple homework which is finding their birthplace and their current residence on a map.  Also, on next   Wednesday, please send in one of daddy's OLD undershirts(the t-shirt kind) so that I can dye them brown and turn them into Indian costumes.

Today we sent home an invitation for our Grandparents Luncheon.  We hope grandparents or special friends can eat with the students that day, Friday, November 16th, at 10:55.  We invite you back to the room for some entertainment.

Tomorrow is School Spirit Day and the students are encouraged to wear their red class shirts or any other Garrison Mill shirt.  Tomorrow we will be going to the Media Center for check-out only.  Please return library books tomorrow.  Our Special for tomorrow is  Art.  Monday and Tuesday, November 5th and 6th, are student holidays and teacher workdays.

Have a PERFECT week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson
