End_of_school

Dear Parents,

This has been a wonderful year.  Thank you for sharing your child with us.  Also, thank you for all the help and support you have given us this year.  Have a great summer.

Please have your child continue to practice reading and writing over the summer.  Our media center will be open for checkout on June 2nd, 4th, 9th, 10th, 16th, and 18th from 10--Noon.  The public library also has a summer reading program. The spiral notebook that we sent home earlier is perfect to use as a journal for writing this summer.

Thanks again for your support and generosity .  Come by and visit us next year.  Bonny and I wish Kathy a happy second retirement and thank her for all that she's done this year.  We will truly miss her.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Our musical play is tomorrow and we are so looking forward to performing for you.  It starts at 8:30, so get a good seat.

I will be out of town Wed.-Fri. so I wanted to send the blog early.  On Thursday we will be sending home a green letter telling about our some of our activities for the last week.  We will still be having academics in the afternoon-these fun activities will take the place of our regular center time.

Bonny and I want to thank you all for the delicious dinner you made for us.  My husband thought we were eating like kings because we've both been on diets.  It was delicious and were we ever full.  This was a perfect gift-delicious and very little cooking on my part.  We also appreciate the gift card.  We have the kindest, most thoughtful parents.  We appreciate you and all your support this year.  We couldn't have made it without you.  Thanks again.

Look for the green letter and have a f-ANT-astic week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

All library books are due back tomorrow.  There will be no more checking out of books this year.  We will not have any more Words of the Week.  Please practice all the words we've already given you.  There will also be so more Show and Tell; this is our last week for it.  Next week we will study insects and continue our practice of subtraction.

Tomorrow night is our Relay for Life in support of cancer research.  Thanks to all of you who have supported our fundraising efforts and made this a success.  We value your generosity.

Next Tuesday is our musical,"Under the Sea," at 8:30 AM in the cafeteria.  We will have a dress rehearsal on Monday for the first grade and our Book Buddies.  Make sure bathing suits, etc. are here by Monday.  All children can wear swimsuits if they choose.  We are very excited about the play and the children have worked very hard.  I hope everyone can come on Tuesday, May 13th, at 8:30 AM and enjoy the show.

Mrs. Ennis has been out all this week and will be out all of next week. Her mother had surgery and needed assistance during her recovery. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to having Mrs. Ennis back soon.

Have a BEE-utiful week.

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow is the last day to order breakfast for your child here at school from Chick-Fil-A.  The profits from this sale will go to the American Cancer Society during our staff's Relay for Life Walk.  Notices have been sent home enabling you to purchase a luminary in honor of cancer survivors or victims.  These are set up and lit by us and provide a very moving experince for those in attendance at the event.

Today is Garrison Mill Spirit Day at Carvel Ice Cream from 3-6:00PM.  Ten per cent of the proceeds go to our school.

We sent home today a homework assignment about the ocean or its animals.  This is due back on Wednesday, April 30th.  Please have fun with your child and enjoy sharing this time together.  Tomorrow we will send home a note telling you what part your child has in the play.  If your child has a speaking or singing part, we will send a copy of the part to practice.  We need two volunteers to put up scenery on Wednesday, May 7th, at 9:30 in the cafeteria.  Please let me know if you can help by emailing me or sending me a note.

Next week we will continue to study oceans and their animals.  We are well into addition and will start subtraction soon .  Our Words of the Week for this week are ATE, DO, and WILL.  Our Words of the Week for next week are DAY, DID, and DON'T.  Please remember to send back the "Take Home" readers consistently.  I'd like for the children to practice reading as many books as possible and they cannot take a new book until the other is returned.  Tomorrow our special is P.E. and the students need to wear the correct shoes.  We will be going to the Media Center tomorrow to check out books.

Our thoughts go out to Mrs. Pearson whose sister died last weekend in New York.  She has been there all week and we have truly missed her.

Have a FIN-tastic Week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

Octopus

Dear Parents,

We hope all of you had a fun and restful holiday.  There are only 26 more school days left in the year!  It doesn't seem possible.  Next week we will continue our study of the world's oceans and its inhabitants.  We will also begin our study of addition and subtraction.  Many manipulatives will be used for these concepts.  Tomorrow our Special is Music.

Due to CRCT testing next week, our specials have been moved to 9:00-9:45 for April 23rd, 24th, 25th, 28th, and 29th.   Therefore, we will have to move Center Time to 8:00-9:00.  If you are a center mom for Wed., Thurs., or Fri. and cannot make this time, please let me know.  This schedule will continue the next Mon. and Tues. also.

Next week is Volunteer Appreciation Week.  We want to thank all of  you who have volunteered in our room and in all the other volunteer tasks in our school.  We could not do this job without your assistance.  Please come to the Volunteer Brunch on May 9th at 8:30 in the Media Center and let us show our appreciation for all your time and hard work.

More information will be coming home next week about the play.  Remember that May 2nd is our Mother's Day Tea at 8:30 AM in our room.  Our play is on May 13th at 8:30 in the cafeteria.  This is a real Kodak moment.

We make a class yearbook from our Top Banana biographies.  A volunteer is needed to type the book for us.  Later we will need volunteers to colate and bind these books.  If interested, please let us  know.

Have a WHALE of a week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

Dear Parents,

Tonight is our PTA meeting, but most importantly, our Art Show.  It starts at 6:30 and you will be able to purchase your child's original artwork which has been professionally framed.  I hope to see you there.

Tomorrow we will be going to the Media Center, so please return all library books.  The students will be able to checkout two books for reading over the spring break.

When we return to school, we will be studying the oceans and its animals.  State standards say that the learner will be able to locate the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.  Also, the learner will be able to identify and locate the seven continents on a globe and map.  We will also have a musical involving every kindergarten child on May 13th at 8:30 AM in the dining room.  We will send more information on your child's part, etc. after spring break.  This musical is definitely a "Kodak moment" , so please make arrangements to come.

We are beginning our chapter in math on graphing.  State standards say  that students will pose information questions, collect data, organize, and record results using objects, pictures, and picture graphs.  Our Words of the Week will be BOY, GIRL, and AM.  We are introducing the students to more than the original 40 required words.  Please continue to review the original 40 words that need to be learned by the end of the year.  If you have any questions about the list, please email me or write me a note.

Our weather is very unpredictable in spring.  Please send a light coat or sweatshirt every day to school because we do go outside if it is not raining.  After lunch today it was very cold  and many students had no coat at all and were chilly.

We hope you and your family have a great spring break.  After tomorrow, there are only 30 school days left.  That seems impossible.  Enjoy this time with your child.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson

Cat_with_flowers

Dear Parents,

We are through studying Letter People each week.  The students should know all capital and lower case letters and their sounds. From now on we will concentrate on combining all these sounds to spell words and write sentences and stories.  Our new Words of the week are PUT, OUT, and SOME.  Next week we will continue our study of plants and their needs and parts.  We will finish our study of measurement of length, height, and capacity.  All the students passed our kindergarten math goal of writing from 0-30.  Yea!  Congratulations to all of the boys and girls and you parents who helped practice at home.

Please return registration forms soon.  We need all these in before next Friday.  Please alert your neighbors and friends that we will have kindergarten registration for next year on Wednesday, April 2nd.  We need to register as many students as possible so that we can have proper teacher allotments.

Here are some important upcoming dates:

-Mother's Day Tea and Author's Tea-May 2nd @ 8:30

-Under the Sea Kindergarten Musical-May 13th @ 8:30 in the dining room.

Tomorrow we will start sending home "Take Home Readers."  These books are from our room collection.  Please practice reading these books with your child.  If you need to keep it for several  days, that is okay.  Our goal is for each student to practice reading successfully every night.  Please try to checkout as many different books as possible.  A child can take home a new reader each day if necessary.  This will continue to the end of the year.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Nichols, Kathy Ennis, and Bonny Pearson
