Looking Ahead to Next Week

Last Week was very eventful.  I truly appreciate the turn out we had at Open House.  It is so great to see all of you.  Please let me know if there are additional questions as we proceed throughout the year.

I hope everybody has ordered their class t-shirts and fill out the form for our class directory.

Our Math test was good and most students scored very well.  We will begin Chapter 2 Monday and the test for this chapter, hopefully, Friday August 29th before our Labor Day Holiday. Chapter two addresses the students ability to compare, order and estimate numbers.

Spelling Unit 1 was tested.  We voted as a class and the students chose to have Spelling Tests on Thursday of every week.  This week we will study unit 2, and the phonetic link is long o words.  Dear Parent homework will be given our on Monday. Here is the link to Sitton Spelling for additional activities for all the units.  The students do this program in school and really seem to enjoy practicing the spelling words this way.

Second Day of Third Grade

Dear Parents.

We had another great day today.  We made a "word cloud" with common nouns and completed a noun Mad Lib.  Subtraction time test was today and tomorrow.  It is a third grade expectation that each student master all four operations by the end of the year.  I will be leveling the fact group and let you know where your child is performing.  Our first math concept is place value to the ten thousands.

Rold Dahl, is our author of study.  We are reading Danny Champion of The World.  This is a book of his life and is in narrative form which happens to be our first writing standard.  I am linking the Roald Dahl sight so the student can go to the site and learn about this author.

Target Days are Wednesday

Chik Fil A night is Thursday

Computer lab is Monday 1:30-2:10

Guidance is scheduled for every other Tuesday from 8:00-8:30

WHAT A GREAT DAY!

D

Dear Parents,

I must tell you that your children are GREAT!  I have never had such a great beginning of the year.  The day went very smooth with the exception of me not knowing they had changed the lunch menu.  We had pizza today instead of bread sticks.  I am so sorry if the children did not get the choice they wanted.

We began the day with a word search that had the student's first name hidden in them.  A hidden picture was next on the daily schedule.  A run down of our schedule was next.  I am sending home ,on Thursday, a copy of our classroom schedule so you can discuss the day with your child. Music was our special today.  A classroom hunt was next where the kids found out interesting facts about their classmates. An addition timed test was next.  We will have a subtraction timed test tomorrow.  The First Day Jitters  was a book with a surprise ending.  We ended the day with photo taking and reading letters from last year's kids.

All in all the day was a huge success.  I had a nice time getting to know your child.  Please take a few minutes tonight to review the day and sign your child's agenda.  They also need to bring a silent reading book to school tomorrow.  Thanks for all your support and the work you have obviously done with your child.  We will do it again tomorrow!

As always my door is open to you so if you have questions please ask.

*Target Days are Wednesday, with Mr. Bayer and will begin the week of August 18th.

                                                         Sincerely,

Mrs. Moore

Hello

Dear Children,

Many of you will find out very soon that I will be your teacher for the third grade.  This will be my 12th year teaching at Garrison Mill Elementary.  It is the second year I have taught the third grade.  I must tell you that I "LOVE" teaching the third grade and you will love the things we learn together.  I look forward to meeting each and everyone of you and learning more about you.

You will be a part of a great learning team.  We will work together sharing many different ideas.  I believe that all children have a desire to be successful and want to learn.  I love teaching and love guiding children through the learning process.

I live in the Garrison Mill district so I may have run into some of you around town.  I am married to Mr. Moore, who teaches math at Sprayberry High School.  I have a son at Mabry in the eighth grade and a daughter at Lassiter in the eleventh grade.  During the summer, I enjoyed family time and being with my friends.  Ben, our Cocker Spaniel, is an important member of our family. Spot and Sammie our twin cats also enjoy a life of complete enjoyment.

I am a very positive person with tons of energy and consider myself very fortunate to be able to work with your child. We will talk more about procedures and my classroom at Sneak A Peak and Open House.

Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and I will see your smiling faces very soon.

                                                                   Sincerely,

                                                                   Mrs. Moore
