Socail Studies Website

Students,

I am so sorry that I did not get the social studies website up last night.  However, I did remember today and would like for you to spend 15-30 minutes exploring how taxes are used and the structure of our community.  Be ready to discuss in class tomorrow.

November

This week is action packed.  I hope you all received your child's IOWA test scores.  Please look over them and let me know if you have any questions. Overall, the students performed great.

Grandparent's and Friend's Luncheon is this Thursday November the 15th.  We will have a little classroom program 10 minutes prior to lunch.  This is one of the most precious things that we do at Garrison Mill.  My Grandmother was my role model from which I emulate daily and my grandfather was a Cobb County principal whom I admired greatly.  Both of my children have come through Garrison Mill and we are lucky enough to have all relatives local.  Since my children have been gone from Garrison Mill, my husband's father has passed away and my father has Dementia and will never be the grandfather my children knew.  This bond is a special one and sometimes when you look back it is the little things that you remember so fondly.  So if it is a grandparent or you or a friend please try to make an effort to come and eat on this special day.

Please be working on the 2's, 5's and 4 times tables with your children.  We will begin multiplication either Friday or Monday.

The book fair is set up in the media center.  The children went to browse today and made their lists.  There are so many beautiful books it is hard to chose.

We are studying soil and landforms.  I found this awesome website on soil and told the students if they were on the site for 15-30 minutes they would earn 5 points on their test.  The test will be this Friday.  They may get on this site tonight, Tuesday or Wednesday.  I would like for them to report back to the class what they discovered on this site       soil site I also need a note from a parent validating that they were on the site and activly involved.

We have also named our learning groups states.  Our goal is to learn as much about that state during the month of November.  They will present as a group what they have learned about their state.  The other groups will do the same.  Then each group will choose a new state.  We are also learning where each of the states are located.  We will have a "State Bee" in December before we get out for Winter Break.  A good website to practice identification of states is    map practice

Each student now has a user name and a password taped in the front of their agenda.  It is to get to their math books on line.  Say they get home and get confused when doing their homework.  they can go to the Harcourt website and enter their user name and password and they can go to the page we went over in class.  the site is  math textbook This is so exciting to be able to access this at home.  Please let me know how they like it.

Our Promethean board has gone to bless another class.  It was so motivating to the students and myself to be able to use this great piece of technology.  The school is getting more and more, it is my hope that our class may have a board installed in our classroom to use on a daily bases.  Talk to your child about what all we learned via this technology and you will be amazed.

Please e-mail with requests concerns or just because.
