Updates
Dear Parents,
Testing is going well. The students are really getting the hang of marking their answers on the sheet and reading the test themselves. This is a change from last year and I am so proud of their performance and endurance to complete the testing.
Tomorrow is the Kathryn Beich pick up. If your child sold items for the fund raiser please pick the items up between 2:00-6:00 tomorrow.
Timed math is going great. The students are really challenging themselves to progress through the levels. I have a goal that each student will master addition and subtraction by the first of November. I have the computers up each morning so they can practice. Most of them have overcome the time restraints. Thank you all so much for your help in helping your child master these basic facts. Next we will tackle multiplication and division.
We are finishing our unit on time and elapsed time. The students have done a wonderful job on these skills. I will give the Chapter 6 post test next Tuesday. Our next chapter is Chapter 3.
Rock and Minerals is our focus in science. They are so excited about this unit. On Friday, we will be making rock candy and watching a Magic School Bus video on the topic.
Reading is going well. Most students have already reached the required 6 books for this 9 weeks. I am very proud of their hard work. We are reading The Twits aloud. On Monday, we will begin guided reading groups. Each group will have a different fiction and nonfiction text to read with me.
English is awesome also, we are identifying parts of sentences with ease. The Shurley English jingles are very fun and the kids really remember them.
Spelling is a bit of a challenge. I have sent home a word list for this year. After we have tested a group of words they will appear again on later tests. I am making an extra effort to incorporate the letter sound drills into their day.
