5th Grade Writing Assessment March 5

Hello Parents,

Please be aware that March 5 is the day of our Fifth Grade Writing Assessment.  Students will have two hours to complete the assessment, and they have done a practice prompt with one of our Area Lead Teachers today in class.  The practice prompts they did in class went home with them today, so ask your child to show theirs to you. 

When it comes to the real assessment day, they should use the same skills they practiced this morning.  They need to use their time wisely to brainstorm ideas and decide as to how to write in response to the prompt.  They should use the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing experiences from their past years of instruction to help guide their essay.  The assessment will be looking for a complete essay, so they need to effectively write in order to exhibit their best. 

We have been using writing prompts throughout the year in class and for homework.  I was encouraged by our ALT's positive response to the class and its efforts. 

Further information is to be sent home tomorrow in the Thursday papers.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.
