<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><span face="Times New Roman">Students and parents, we’re off to a great start in the GM Target Program.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Second graders are busy researching their <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">bat species</strong> in the computer lab and will write a detailed scientific report on their findings.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>We will have a guest speaker, Dr. Stephen Burnett, a renowned biologist who specializes in bat research, visit us on October 6<sup>th</sup>.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>We will begin to explore similarities and differences in the flying abilities of bats and birds.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Next, we’ll take a look at echolocation and discover its relationship to modern day sonar.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Ask your child to explain megabats, microbats, and the term <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">chiroptera</em>.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Ask your child to explain how bats help pollinate plants <u>and</u> scatter seeds.</strong></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><span face="Times New Roman">Fourth and fifth graders are diligently studying the <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">American legal system</strong> and preparing cases to either prosecute or defend in our upcoming mock trials.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Will our prosecuting attorneys and their team of experts be able to find Hansel and Gretel Schmidt guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of criminal mischief and aggravated battery?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Will our defendant’s attorneys and their capable cronies be able to defend Jeremiah Birch as he faces charges of aggravated battery against one Ivan M. Wolfe? <span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Only the juries for these two exciting cases will be able decide!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Ask your child to explain what happens when one is arrested.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Ask your child how civil and criminal trials differ and how they are alike.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Ask your child to enumerate the steps of a trial and describe important roles people play.</strong></span></p>
