<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Science quiz tomorrow on Chapter 1 Lesson 3</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Think Tac Toe activities due tomorrow for same lesson</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Next week will be the last lesson in Chapter 1. There will be a Chapter test instead of a quiz on Friday, September 12.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">There will&nbsp; be a math test on Monday 9/8 on place value to the billions, rounding and estimating, prime and composite numbers, factors and multiples and prime factorization. Everyone is doing really well with these concepts. </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Reflections are due 9/26.Please bring it in when finished. </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Blue folders went home today, please take the time to go through all papers inside. </span></p>

<p>Also, there is a signature card on the back of the folder. Please sign it each Thursday so I can be sure the paperwork inside is getting to you!</p>

<p>Math project with place value blocks is due tomorrow as is the book report for Mrs. Brindley on <u>Kid in the Red Jacket.</u>&nbsp; Rememeber there is always a science quiz on Friday and Think Tac Toe activities are also due tomorrow. </p></div>

<p><span style="color: #006600;"><u>This Week in Science:</u> </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #006600;">We will begin lesson 2 in our textbook. Our essential question of the week is "What inquiry skills do scientists use?" We will follow the weekly outline for classwork and homework that was given out at open house. The students will also be going to the computer lab to learn how to log on to their textbooks on-line and listen to the text! </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #990033;"><u>Math this week:</u> </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #990033;">We will take a pretest Monday on number theory, place value and decimals. We will begin with Chapter 1 in their textbook learning about place value. <p><span style="color: #660033;font-size: 1.2em;">We are ready to begin our second week of school and I want to let you all know what we will be studying first. </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #660033;font-size: 1.2em;"><u>Math</u>: We will start with measurement. Students will learn the difference between customary units and metric. We will learn how to use many different measuring tools correctly. Students will also learn how to convert one metric unit to another. </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #660033;font-size: 1.2em;"><strong><u>Science</u></strong>: We will be learning about measurement in science class also. We will learn how scientist measure, mass, capacity and volume and also learn all about different tools scientists need. We will start with Lesson 1 Chapter 1 in the text book. </span></p>

<p><span style="color: #660033;font-size: 1.2em;">Please plan to attend the Open House on Thursday 8/21 at 6:30 for valuable 5th grade information.</span>&nbsp; </p></div>

The students will be tested weekly so that all will pass the 4 operations with a 90% or better. Many of the students are a little rusty and need to practice with flash cards or take home practice tests. <p><span style="font-size: 1.2em;">Behavior booklets went home today. Please review these with your child, sign the back and return to school tomorrow. Mrs. Brindley assigned writing homework and some students completed it in class.&nbsp; &nbsp;</span></p>
