Forms from Open House

If you have the green emergency card and class directory form from Open House please return those ASAP. If you have misplaced it or did not get them, please let me know.

This Week in Science:

We will begin lesson 2 in our textbook. Our essential question of the week is "What inquiry skills do scientists use?" We will follow the weekly outline for classwork and homework that was given out at open house. The students will also be going to the computer lab to learn how to log on to their textbooks on-line and listen to the text!

Math this week:

We will take a pretest Monday on number theory, place value and decimals. We will begin with Chapter 1 in their textbook learning about place value. This should be a review from last year.

Open House

Thank you to all who attended the Open House Thursday night. Hopefully if answered some of your questions. I know it was a ton of information in a short time. Please contact me if you have ANY questions. Also, please realize your children are just learning about 5th grade expectations and the routine of the day. Once they get that part,  we will make sure they are successful!

A Great First Week

We are ready to begin our second week of school and I want to let you all know what we will be studying first.

Math: We will start with measurement. Students will learn the difference between customary units and metric. We will learn how to use many different measuring tools correctly. Students will also learn how to convert one metric unit to another.

Science: We will be learning about measurement in science class also. We will learn how scientist measure, mass, capacity and volume and also learn all about different tools scientists need. We will start with Lesson 1 Chapter 1 in the text book.

Please plan to attend the Open House on Thursday 8/21 at 6:30 for valuable 5th grade information.

Math Facts Timed Tests

They're back! 5th graders need to know their basic math facts with speed and accuracy in order to meet other 5th grade standards. The students will be tested weekly so that all will pass the 4 operations with a 90% or better. Many of the students are a little rusty and need to practice with flash cards or take home practice tests. I will give practice tests to anyone who wants them!
