*Your kids did a fantastic job on their Show and Tells. I could see that they were prepared. They knew what they wanted to say, and said it with an appropriate volume and at a comfortable pace. Thank you so much for your support. I wish you could have seen the pride on their faces today.
**We are going to continue with the speaking and listening standards. Next week, we will combine it with a reading standard of summarizing a story. To do this we will use the retelling strategy. On Monday, your child will need to choose a fiction book to share in class. In Monday's folder the retelling strategy card will come home. Please have your child practice the strategy twice. There will be no spelling homework on Monday night. Then on Tuesday night, please have your child practice again by retelling the story twice. On Wednesday we will share our books in class. Thank you for your support.
The retelling strategy:
Retell a Storyuses the kinesthetic action of touching 8 knots on a rope to help children focus and remember the story. Each knot represents one thought from the story. When we come to each knot, it will remind us to state the next event from the story.
After reading the story, we retell it using the rope and knots, stopping at each knot and telling an important fact from the story.
7. After that
We then show the rope with both ends connecting to each other to demonstrate that the retelling ends by solving the problem in the beginning.
*** On Friday, we will have apple sampling which we will use for graphing. If you would like to send in 17 little samples of a certain kind of apple on Friday, please send me a note of the kind you would like to send in, so I know not to buy it. Thanks.
Thanks for all of your support and have a great weekend!
