We have just learned that we are able to take the parent information without a notary for medical information.

Mathematical Practices and Class Procedures

5th GRADE EXPECTATIONS:

1. Make Sense of Problems and Persevere in Solving Them.

2. Reason Abstractly and Quantitatively.

3. Construct Viable Arguments,Critique Reasoning of Others.

4. Model with Mathematics

5. Use Appropriate Tools Strategically.

6. Attend to Precision.

7. Look For and Make Use of Structure.

8. Look For and Express Regularity in Repeated Reasoning.

 

Grades: A Math Progress Report will be printed and sent home at the 4  1/2 week mark for parent signature. It will be in Thursday Folders at Progress Report time. Every child will receive one at that time so parents are aware of mid-term grades in Math.

Tests/Classwork: Every student will have a Portfolio in which work is kept at school. This Portfolio along with a Journal Composition Notebook and Practice Workbook will be the majority of work samples avaialble for discussion by students, teachers and parents. The portfolio papers may come home at anytime upon parental request through their child. PLEASE have the student return the work to the portfolio slot after viewing.

Email and Phone Conferences are the best tools for parent-teacher communication. Face to face conferences are also welcome if parents feel the need to discuss the work samples with the child present.

Homework: To be brought to math class daily and then handed into box or self-assessed in class at teacher's direction.

Missing Homework is noted in agenda and study hall is served regardless of reason other than illness or absence from school.

Standards: First 2 Weeks

M5N2 - Understand Place Value including decimals to the thousandths place value.

Order Decimals as greater than, less than or equal to other decimals and whole numbers.

Percentages as modeled by Grids or Circles.

Decimals are the same as fractions.

Percentages are fractions and decimals in another format.

Parents,

As you have probably already noticed we have had some schedule changes. I will continue to post changes as they come. We will adjust to the new format of the fifth graders rotation as needed. We will always keep the needs of the students in mind along with all the requirements of the CCSD and state as we change times.

Please be sure to subscribe to the blog so you are notified of updates as they come.

LUNCH time change is from 10:49 to 10:41 with Mrs. Longyear taking and picking the children up from lunch.Again LUNCH from 10:41 - 11:11 daily unless on an early release or assembly schedule.

SNACK time change is to 1:45pm due to the early lunch time.

PLEASE be sure your child has had breakfast at home so they are ready to work upon arrival.

Reminders:

Target Open House is for PARENTS ONLY, Tuesday evening the 16th at 6pm in the media center.

Open House for PARENTS ONLY this Tuesday the 16th. PTA meeting in the cafeteria at 6:30 with the 5th grade parents remaining in the cafeteria following the meeting for the 5th grade Orientation and Field Trip information meeting.

School Starts at 7:55. Entering the room after that time requires a tardy pass from the front office.

Perfect attendance this year means NO tardies and NO absences. There will be no other type of attendance awards given.
