5th GRADE EXPECTATIONS:

Grades: A Math Progress Report will be printed and sent home at the 4 1/2 week mark for parent signature. It will be in Thursday Folders at Progress Report time. Every child will receive one at that time so parents are aware of mid-term grades in Math.
Tests/Classwork: Every student will have a Portfolio in which work is kept at school. This Portfolio along with a Journal Composition Notebook and Practice Workbook will be the majority of work samples avaialble for discussion by students, teachers and parents. The portfolio papers may come home at anytime upon parental request through their child. PLEASE have the student return the work to the portfolio slot after viewing.
Email and Phone Conferences are the best tools for parent-teacher communication. Face to face conferences are also welcome if parents feel the need to discuss the work samples with the child present.
Homework: To be brought to math class daily and then handed into box or self-assessed in class at teacher's direction.
Missing Homework is noted in agenda and study hall is served regardless of reason other than illness or absence from school.
Standards: First 2 Weeks
M5N2 - Understand Place Value including decimals to the thousandths place value.
Order Decimals as greater than, less than or equal to other decimals and whole numbers.
Percentages as modeled by Grids or Circles.
Decimals are the same as fractions.
Percentages are fractions and decimals in another format.
