GRADES SENT HOME/ Portfolios Over Weekend

Parents,

Grades for all subject matter were sent home in Thursday Folders. Work Portfolios will come home over the weekend.

Grades only get signed by parents at the 4 and 1/2 week mark and 9 week mark.

Please look over your child's work this weekend and email or write questions or concerns down. There is a family response sheet in the Thursday folders to send back on Monday after viewing their work drawer.

ALL WORK IS TO RETURN TO SCHOOL AND BE PUT IN THE DRAWER UNTIL END OF FIRST NINE WEEKS AND PARENT SIGNATURE ON REPORT CARDS.

The students have been diligent in their work habits and routines.

They are an exceptional class and I enjoy them everyday!

Creating a Community

We are well on our way to building a wonderful learning environment. The students' behavior and focus is solid. Thank you parents!

FLEXIBLE GROUPS ARE IN PLACE FOR MATH CLASS. Groups will flex by concepts or student needs.

Social Studies and Science will be content areas that are team taught. Mr. McGill will be teaching Social Studies and Mrs. Hazlett will be teaching Science. We will rotate the classes between subjects and days.

Example:  MON. WED. FRI.  /    TUES.  THURS.
                S.S     S.S    S.S         Science   Science

Alternating the next week with     MON.  WED.   FRI.    /     TUES.    THURS.
                                                       Science...                           S.S      S.S


HOMEWORK WILL BE ASSIGNED BY THE TEACHER in CLASS DURING THE DAY.
THEREFORE, HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE POSTED ON THE BLOG. STUDENTS MUST WRITE IT DOWN DAILY IN THEIR AGENDAS!!!!

AGENDAS WILL BE FILLED OUT DURING THE CLASS PERIOD THAT THE HOMEWORK IS ASSIGNED IN. An overall agenda check will take place at 1:35 daily.

GRADES WILL BE GIVEN AS FOLLOWS:

MATH GRADES WILL BE HANDLED BY THE MATH TEACHER WHO SPENDS THE MAJORITY OF TIME WIT HTHE STUDENT IN THAT NINE WEEK PERIOD.

THE HOMEROOM TEACHER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DOCUMENTING GRADES IN READING, SPELLING, ENGLISH/WRITING

PLEASE NOTE...WRITING GRADES CAN AND WILL BE AFFECTED BY S.S and SCIENCE WRITING ASSIGNMENTS. (Students must write well daily in all content areas to be considered for an A in Writing.)

MRS. HAZLETT Will Document SCIENCE GRADES.

MR. MCGILL Will Document SOCIAL STUDIES GRADES.

THERE WILL BE A MINIMUM OF 1 GRADE PER SUBJECT AREA PER WEEK TO BE AVERAGED FOR A NINE WEEK PERIOD.

PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING OPEN HOUSE ON THURSDAY at 6:30 (PTA Meeting) 7pm (Classroom)

Beyond Expectations

CHUGGING ALONG!

The students have a had an introduction to the standards on Picasso. We have given them solid examples of work samples that met the standard and requirements vs. work samples that haven't. They have been instructed to follow directions both orally and written.

We are off to a great start. Routines and procedures are in place and students are quickly adapting to the parallel teaching style.

PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING OPEN HOUSE on Thursday the 21st for further information on standards and practices.

Day 1 - Success!

What a great first day! The students were ready to learn.

HOMEWORK FOR 8/11/08 Science Textbook

Experiment on pg. 16 already completed in class.

Please read pages 16 – 26 in your science textbook. Answer questions 1-8 on page 26 in complete sentences in your science journal! #2 will require a six sentence paragraph.

PARENTS: Please sign the Garrison Mill Behavior Expectations Pamphlet after discussion with your child. It is coming home tonight for your viewing.

AGENDAS do not need to be signed by a parent or teacher unless the student is in need of continual support. All students will start with the expectation of maintaining their own agenda. Student /teacher contracts will be written with parent knowledge if further support is needed.
