<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>The first Reading Night was held on Monday, September 17th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The evening was a great success and was enjoyed by all students and parents. Many of our students caught up on their Accelerated Reader requirements, while parents learned a lot about this reading program and had an opportunity to check out books.</p>

<p>Our next Reading Night will be on Monday, November 19th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. here in the media center.&nbsp; Please mark this evening on your calendar and join us for a lovely evening of reading!!</p>

<p>A heart felt thank you to the many media center volunteers who give of their time and talents so generously.&nbsp; Katy Harper is in charge of all media volunteers for this school year.&nbsp; If you would like to volunteer, just e-mail Katy at <a href="mailto:kpjg@aol.com">kpjg@aol.com</a>&nbsp; or register through the Garrison Mill PTA website.&nbsp; </p>

<p>Parents, did you know that you could check out books under your name at the Garrison Mill Media Center?&nbsp; You are invited to check out up to 5 books and keep them for a total of 10 school days.&nbsp; We are happy to renew your books if necessary.&nbsp; </p>

<p>The media center opens at 7:25 in the morning and closes at 2:15 each afternoon.&nbsp; All check out and Accelerated Reader testing for students and parents must take place between these times.&nbsp; Kindergarten parents may read the book, and the A/R test to their children.&nbsp; All other students must take the test by themselves without any parental assistance. </p>

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>As the new school year begins in the media center, it is a great time to review the &quot;rules and regs&quot; that will help the media center operations to run smoothly this year. Things like:</p>

<p>* The media center opens for students and parents at 7:25 a.m.</p>

<p>* The media center closes at 2:25 p.m. when the last bell rings.&nbsp; If you need to bring your child to the </p>

<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;center to check out a book or to take an Accelerated Reader test, you must come before we close.</p>

<p>* Parents are welcome to check out books.Up to 5 books per child and you may keep them for 10 school </p>

<p>&nbsp; days.&nbsp; Please remember to return them on the date they are due. </p>

<p>* If you are reading to your child's class and would like help in choosing a good book, please drop by the </p>

<p>&nbsp; media center, or send in a note to me with your child.&nbsp; I am more than happy to help you choose </p>

<p>&nbsp; a book that you and your child's class would enjoy.</p>

<p>* Student books are checked out for 10 school days.&nbsp; The books can be renewed for an additional</p>

<p>&nbsp; 10 days if the student so desires.</p>

<p>* A notice will be sent home with your child if books are overdue.&nbsp; Please help your child remember</p>

<p>&nbsp; to bring their books back to school.&nbsp; </p>



<p>Please mark your calendar for Monday, September 10th.&nbsp; The media center will be open from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for Reading Night.&nbsp; Parents are invited to come with their children to read, take Accelerated Reader tests, and check out books.&nbsp; &nbsp;Parents are encouraged to read with their children, but your child must take the Accelerated Reader tests without parent help(except for kindergarten students.)</p>

<p>As always, you are welcome to visit the media center at any time during the school day.&nbsp; Mrs. Deborah Dempsey, the media paraprofessional and I are always glad to see you and to help any way that we can.</p></div>
