Media Memo - October, 2007

The first Reading Night was held on Monday, September 17th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The evening was a great success and was enjoyed by all students and parents. Many of our students caught up on their Accelerated Reader requirements, while parents learned a lot about this reading program and had an opportunity to check out books.

Our next Reading Night will be on Monday, November 19th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. here in the media center.  Please mark this evening on your calendar and join us for a lovely evening of reading!!

A heart felt thank you to the many media center volunteers who give of their time and talents so generously.  Katy Harper is in charge of all media volunteers for this school year.  If you would like to volunteer, just e-mail Katy at kpjg@aol.com  or register through the Garrison Mill PTA website.

Parents, did you know that you could check out books under your name at the Garrison Mill Media Center?  You are invited to check out up to 5 books and keep them for a total of 10 school days.  We are happy to renew your books if necessary.

The media center opens at 7:25 in the morning and closes at 2:15 each afternoon.  All check out and Accelerated Reader testing for students and parents must take place between these times.  Kindergarten parents may read the book, and the A/R test to their children.  All other students must take the test by themselves without any parental assistance.

Look for upcoming information regarding our fall book fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome Back to the G.M. Media Center

As the new school year begins in the media center, it is a great time to review the "rules and regs" that will help the media center operations to run smoothly this year. Things like:

* The media center opens for students and parents at 7:25 a.m.

* The media center closes at 2:25 p.m. when the last bell rings.  If you need to bring your child to the

center to check out a book or to take an Accelerated Reader test, you must come before we close.

* Parents are welcome to check out books.Up to 5 books per child and you may keep them for 10 school

days.  Please remember to return them on the date they are due.

* If you are reading to your child's class and would like help in choosing a good book, please drop by the

media center, or send in a note to me with your child.  I am more than happy to help you choose

a book that you and your child's class would enjoy.

* Student books are checked out for 10 school days.  The books can be renewed for an additional

10 days if the student so desires.

* A notice will be sent home with your child if books are overdue.  Please help your child remember

to bring their books back to school.

Please mark your calendar for Monday, September 10th.  The media center will be open from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for Reading Night.  Parents are invited to come with their children to read, take Accelerated Reader tests, and check out books.   Parents are encouraged to read with their children, but your child must take the Accelerated Reader tests without parent help(except for kindergarten students.)

As always, you are welcome to visit the media center at any time during the school day.  Mrs. Deborah Dempsey, the media paraprofessional and I are always glad to see you and to help any way that we can.
