What's Happening.....week of September 29, 2008
Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. We did at our house thanks to the Crimson Tide!
This week we will monitor our weather station. We will check it daily and record our observations. We will also check our individual rain gauges. We will find out more about warm and cold fronts and how they help us predict weather.
In Language Arts, we will focus on action verbs. Are action verbs important in our reading and writing? We will do lots of fun activities to learn how important action verbs are to us. Keep thinking of more prefixes for our board. This week we will also talk about suffixes.
We will continue our USA Weekly studies in our guided reading groups. The next two weeks will focus on the explorers. Remember reading for information is different than reading for enjoyment.
We took a fire safety pretest this morning. This test was for the fire fighters to get an idea of what you know about fire safety. We will start fire safety next week. We also will make a banner thanking the public safety workers. Our slogan is "Keep Up the Good Work". Each of you will add a personal thank you on the banner throughout the week.
Spelling unit 6 homework is due next Monday. The skill we will be testing is adding suffixes to words. Challenge words for the test on 10/6 are: public safety, fire fighters, verb, linking, discovery, forecast, prediction, Beaufort scale, equator, satellite, meteorologist, prefix, and suffix
Your sunglass book report is due next Monday, October 6th.
Question of the week: Why is punctuation important in reading?
Post your answer in the comments section!
Have a great week,
Mrs. Verma
Punctuation is important in reading because if you don't have punctuaton you don't know when to take a break or when a sentence ends.
