What's happening...week of 9/15
It's supposed to cool off a little this week, so that should make recess more fun!
Don't forget about your Scholastic Book orders. I plan to place our 1st order on Wednesday. I don't have many orders, so far. If you want to order but need more time, please let me know before I close it out on Wednesday.
Progress reports will go home in your Thursday folders this week. I will talk to you on Monday about your grades so far, so there shouldn't be any surprises. Remember, we still have 4 more weeks before the grading period ends, so if you are not happy with your grades, you have time to improve them.
Don't forget that Tuesday is EARLY RELEASE. I get to have meetings all afternoon, but you get to enjoy the afternoon off...a great time to finish up your social studies group presentation if you are not done with your part!
I did not have a chance to check the AR report on Friday. I will let you know if you still owe me an AR test before the end of the day Monday. Don't forget that your Sandwich Book Project is due by Thursday. Many of you have already turned them in! We will begin presenting them to the class next week.
You have a spelling test on Monday. I hope you studied your words and your challenge words. You will receive your next spelling HW assignment Monday. You will test again on Monday September 22nd. The challenge words for Unit 4 are: instrument, barometer, thermometer, friendly, pronoun, address, greeting, body, paragraph, closing, signature, and cursive. The skill that will be tested is letters that make the /s/ sound.
In science, you will be learning about weather instruments. You will get to create several instruments in class. It should be lots of fun!
Group projects should be finished Monday, because you start presenting them to the class on Wednesday.
Wednesday is also computer lab this week!
Narrative's...both reading and writing them will be the focus of Language Arts this week. You should finish Dear Mr. Henshaw and test on it this week, and you will begin some great narrative writing lessons.
I'm very excited and I hope you will be...our pen pal letters are here!!! You will get them Monday, and then begin writing back this week. We will mail them as soon as everyone is finished. This will be the 1st assignment that you have to write in cursive, so be ready.
I will be out Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. I will be in the building on Tuesday, and back before you leave for early release, but most of the morning all of the 4th grade teachers will be in a meeting. You are very lucky...since Mrs. Verma is doing most of the teaching, you won't even miss me. Mrs. Carder will be there W-F and I know you will be on your best behavior.
Question of the week: (Make sure you comment on the blog)...Can you name at leat 3 weather instruments and what they are used for? Hint - two of the instruments are mentioned on this blog.
THERMOMETER-The temperature
BAROMETER-Wind pressure
WIND VANE-Wind direction
I'M SO GLAD I HAVE YOU FOR A TEACHER!!!!! LOVE,
