THANK YOU!!!

Tissuebox4c I just want to thank all of you for being such a wonderful class!  I hated to miss Thursday and Friday, but I've been pretty sick and I didn't want any of you to have to feel like this.  I talked to Mrs. Verma on Thursday and she told me how well behaved you were...then Mrs. Duhart called me Friday and told me the same thing.  I am so proud of all of you!!!  Thank you for following the rules we talked about the 1st week of school.  I knew we had a great class, and this proved it.  Hopefully, I'll be better by Tuesday.  I'm looking forward to being back in the classroom with you all.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

What's happening the week of 8/25

In social studies, we will have a map quiz on the 7 continents (North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Antartica) and the 5 oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Southern, Arctic, and Indian).  You will need to know where they are located on a map.  We have been studying it all week, so it shouldn't be too hard.  Later in the week, you will begin studying Native Americans.

In science, you will be creating a fun water cycle project on Monday.  On Thursday, you will test on water and the water cycle.  You will begin studying clouds on Friday.

We will continue Dear Mr. Henshaw.  Our 1st Quiz on the book will be next week.

We will continue working on nouns, pronouns and possesive nouns next week in Language Arts.  We will also finish Unit 1 of Sitton Spelling and test on Thursday.  No challenge words this 1st week...but we will have them after this.

We will begin our guided reading groups next week.  Mrs. Fowler and I have chosen some great books for each group.  We will let you know your groups on Monday.

Question of the week:  Write this in standard form - three hundred twenty-five million, twenty-seven thousand, eight hundred three.  Now, if you increased that number by fifty thousand, what would the new number be?  You must have both answers to get the "prize" money.

Have a great weekend...see you on Monday!  Don't forget to talk a LOT this weekend, so you won't need to next week!!!!!

Thanks for coming!

A big thanks to all that were able to come to Open House last night.  If you were unable to be here, we missed you.  Please take a minute to look at the powerpoint from last night (even if you were here).  Take a minute to see the list of things we can use in our room, we really appreciate your help.

What a great 1st week!

August_news_clipart We had a great week and I'm looking forward to having a wonderful year with this class!

We've started the year with some fun science and social studies activities, as well as beginning a class novel and getting our new math groups.

Calcultr  We began our new math groups Friday.  The group names are the cyclones and the tsunamis.  Both groups will be learning the same skills and concepts, but if a group understands it quicker, they will get extension activities as well.  Both groups will test on the same days.  Mrs. Fowler is teaching both groups, and she will continue to pretest each unit.  After each of the pretests, she will regroup.  Most students will remain in the same group the entire year, but there will be some students who move from group to group based on their skill level with specific concepts.

1stprize_small I will be teaching science and social studies to both groups.  I love both subjects and we will be doing a lot of hands-on activities.  You may not know it, but I received the Georgia Elementary Science Teacher of Promise Award last year from GSTA (Georgia Science Teacher Association).  I'm very proud of my accomplishment, and I can't wait to share everything I learn in the science classes I take, with my students.

BigbookThis week we will continue understanding the weekly skills for Sitton Spelling.  We will work on each assignment in class, until everyone understands what to do.  Beginning with Unit 2, most of the work will be done as homework.  We will test on Unit 1 next week and then begin testing every Thursday.

Book_jpg We will begin studying parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) in Language Arts this week.  We will take SRI tests on Thursday and begin guided reading groups Friday.  We will also continue our classroom novel, Dear Mr. Henshaw.  We will begin writing with prompts, narrative writing and letter writing this week.

Here is some important "stuff" to remember:

Our 1st week of school!

Backto  It was fun meeting everyone on Friday.  We are going to have such a great class!

As some of you may have heard, we have a special treat for the 1st part of the year.  Mrs. Verma will be student teaching in our room until November.  She could not be at Sneak-a-Peek, because she had to go to her son's school.  I know you will love having her in the class with us, she's great!

Mathwhiz

You will also get to meet Mrs. Fowler on Monday.  She will be teaching you math this year.  Her room is right next door.

Watrmeln2 Don't forget to bring a nutritious snack to school every day.  We don't eat lunch until 12:43 PM, so you will have a chance to eat snack around 9:30 AM.

Kids Our class is split for specials this year, so some of you will have PE every day.  Please wear or bring athletic shoes Monday, in case you have PE that day.

I'll see you tomorrow!  I can't wait!
