The GM Media Center will be open the following days this summer:
You are all fifth graders now!!!!! I'm so excited and proud that you all worked so hard this year. Everybody in our class passed every area (reading, language arts, math, science and social studies) of the CRCT. That shows how hard you worked this year!!!
I want to thank everyone for my wonderful gifts from the class. If you brought an individual gift, I already wrote you a heartfelt thank you note, but I really appreciated the Target gift card and the AWESOME beach bag from the class. You have made me feel so loved, here at GM.
Please come back and visit me next year...and if you ever need help, or just someone to talk to, you know I will be there for you.
Have a wonderful summer. Have fun and be safe!
I'll see you all next year....as FIFTH GRADERS!!!
Love you all,
Mrs. Golden
I'm doing the happy dance...so I know you are, too. This is going to be an extremely busy week, but we'll have lots of fun!!!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone for my wonderful teacher appreciation gifts. The beach bag, the water balloons, the cool flag cups, the monagrammed can koozie, the chocolate, the bath stuff and of course the gift cards!! I appreciate that you have let me teach and learn from your children all year. I've had a wonderful class, and I will miss each and every one of them. Please know that I feel very appreciated...and that you have all done a great job as parents. You've raised some very loving and caring kids!
Monday morning at 9:00 you will be going to the specials awards program. No PE on Monday! Bring your yearbooks to school on Monday and you can take them out at recess for signatures again. Monday is also our "surprise" popsicle party for Mrs. Wilson. The posters you made are great and I know she will be so surprised and happy about the party.
You have a math test on Monday in Mrs. Fowler's room. We will be doing a simulation about pollution in science.
Tuesday morning is the Author's Tea from 10:45 - 11:15. If your guest will be joining us for lunch, please let me know on Monday. Our last guidance class will be Tuesday afternoon.
Wednesday you may have another math test. The afternoon will be our last behavior party. Thanks to all who have sent in cokes, candy bars and popcorn (or who have promised to send them!) I will be sending home all of your desk stuff on Wednesday, so make sure you have room in your backpack for everything.
Thursday you will get to hear all about what fifth grade is like from some fifth grade authorities. Be ready to ask them questions if you have any. We will have sack lunches in the classroom today due to the 5th grade luncheon. If you forgot to take anything home on Wednesday, you must take it on Thursday.
Friday...LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!! We have a Peter Hart performance at 10:20 Friday morning in the gym. Do not bring your bookbags or anything else to school on Friday. If you bring your lunch, please try to bring it in a paper bag that can be thrown away after lunch. The 5th grade Walk of Honor will be at 1:45 Friday afternoon...and when they leave, you will be the NEW 5th graders!!!! Isn't that exciting!!!
Have a great summer...read a lot....and rest up for a great 5th grade year! I'll miss you all, but I'm sure you will come by to see me all of the time.
It's hard to believe that there are only 11 more days of school (but who's counting?)!!! There are so many events, I thought I'd list as many as possible so you would know what to expect.

Don't forget that we will be testing on Unit 23 this week. You will need to turn in your Unit 23 activities on Friday. (Thanks, Ashley!!!)
Challenge words this week: habitat, adaptation, environment, worm, penguin, ecosystem, pollution, predator, consumer, decomposer, producer, prey.
I'll bet that you can figure out what we are learning about in science! Just look at the challenge words above!!! We will continue with some fun activities this week. Wednesday, we will be dissecting owl pellets. It should be a LOT of fun!
We will also be doing a lot of writing this week to prepare for our Author's Tea. Our Author's Tea will be at 10:45 on May 20th. Let your parent's know the date and time so they can plan to come.
You all did so well during the CRCT!!! I could tell that you were trying your best, and I saw that everyone went back and checked their answers at the end of each session! I think those peppermints really helped you to concentrate, what do you think? I also liked that you sat very quietly after you were finished and waited for everyone else to finish. I know how hard that is, but you did a great job!!
I want to say a HUGE Thank you to all of the parents who sent in snacks and treats for us. We had a healthy snack between tests every day, a special treat of our own container of mints last week (everyone really liked that), and popsicles after testing was over. It was a little cold outside for popsicles, but no one seemed to mind.
I know that many of you are enjoying writing to your penpals. They have asked if it would be possible for you to send your home addresses so they can keep writing to you over the summer. I will send home permission slips in the Thursday folder, and if your parents say it is OK, you can send it to them. We will write back this week and send the letters on Monday, so you will be able to get one more back before the end of the year.
Only one more day of testing!!! You all have done so well! I know it gets tiring, but you keep doing your best, checking your answers and reading quietly when you are finished. I am so proud of you! Social Studies tomorrow, then back to regular days.
Only 19 days of school left, and they are jampacked!
Tomorrow after CRCT, we will have a special snack to celebrate the end of testing. Then we will work on a new exemplar. Timed tests in multiplication and division for all who have not yet exceeded expectations (96% or higher). Miss Sumrell begins teaching tomorrow...she'll be teaching your health lessons for the grading period...I know you are looking forward to learning from her.
Don't forget to bring in your money for a gift card for Miss Sumrell...her last day is Friday.
Wednesday is Chic-Fil-A if you brought in your money last week.
Wednesday Ms. Sumrell's supervisor from KSU will be at school to watch her teach. Please make sure you are on your very best behavior.
No spelling test again this week, but we will start spelling next week again. Only 2 weeks of spelling left.
Progress reports go home Wednesday.
We have another performing arts day coming up, and field day! More info on field day to come soon.
Don't forget to come shop at the GM Foundation indoor yard sale on Saturday. Buy a lot and help support the new foundation. The money earned helps us to get Promethean Boards and LCD projectors in all of the GM classrooms.
I'm on my way to the gym, so I'll write more later.
Questions of the week: What is your favorite thing you did in 4th grade? What would you like to tell the 3rd graders about 4th grade? What do you wish someone had told you? Send me a comment with your answers!
If you need to schedule a large item pick-up to be donated to the Foundation Garage Sale,
Please call Patti Lavender: 770-552-1162
We are planning to schedule pick-ups for Sunday afternoon, April 27th, but we may be able to make other arrangements.
Ms. Sumrell's last day will be next Friday. She has learned a lot in our classroom, and we will be sorry to see her go.
I would like to get her a gift she will be able to use once she has her own classroom. She will be doing her student teaching next Fall, so full time teaching is probably a year away. For that reason, I thought a gift card that she can use for whatever she needs once she starts teaching would make a wonderful gift. If you would like to donate towards this gift, please send your cash to me in a sealed envelope. This is a surprise, so don't let Miss Sumrell know anything about it. I will need any donations by next Wednesday so that I will have time to get the gift card.
Thanks!
