Social Studies-  We are beginning a new unit on early explorers and Native Americans.

Writing- Please ask your child to tell you about the story they have been writing in class.

Spelling-  I just wanted you to know that your child will only bring home spelling words in their agenda if they miss words on the pretest.

Dear Parents,

I just wanted to make a quick post about the homework for Wed. Aug. 27th in case any of your children are having trouble.  The math is using mental math strategies that we went over in class today but if they do not understand they can do the problems the regular way. For example, if it is 48+26 they can use of the strategies to work this problem in their head or if that is too hard they can just add with regrouping.  I am sorry if this caused any confusion or trouble with homework.  As always, please just send me quick note if something is too hard.

Week Number Two

We made it through our second week.  It was so great to see all of you at open house.  If you were unable to make it, please make sure you look through the packet that was sent home.

If you would be interested in donating a few outdoor balls or jump ropes for our class to use outside at recess, please let me know.

As far as our curriculum, we have started studying the water cycle and weather this week in science.  We are finishing up a unit on place value in math and will have a test on Tues.  In spelling, I wanted you to know that if your child makes 100 on their spelling pretest they will not be required to study the words that week. Otherwise look for the words in their agena.

Have a great weekend.  And remember to encourage your child to be independent  and take responsibility for thier homework and class work.

Test

August 15, 2008

Wow.  We really had a great first week of school. Your children are really learning our class routines and how to responsible for their work.  Please plan to attend open house on Thurs. at 7 pm to find out more about 4th grade.

We spent some time getting to know each other and now we have jumped right into the curriculum. We have been studying place value and graping in Math, reviewing vowels in Spelling, learning the 6+1 traits in writing, and reviewing map skills in Social Studies.

Thanks for looking at your child's agenda each night.  Please make sure you sign it so they do not have study hall.  And please make sure your child does their homework.

Have a great weekend and see you next Thurs.
