Wow.  We have  a busy week ahead.  We will be having fire safety on Tues. and Thurs. throughout the month of Oct.  Ask your child to tell you what they are learning. 

It was great to see everyone at the fall festival. What a fun night.

In math, we are finishing up our chapters(5 and 6)  on reviewing multilication and division facts.  We will have our chapter test on Tuesday. 

We will be starting reports on explorers this week and will go to the media center for a research lesson with Ms. Haas. 

In reading, we are finishing a novel study on Frindle.  Ask your child about the word they invented.

As you know, this Friday is the end of the nine week grading period.  We will be having our celebration on Oct. 15th.  Students can bring in a G movie for the class to vote on to watch.  Report cards will come next the week of Oct. 13th.

The administration has come in to talk to the students to make sure they know they cannot bring toys from home to school .  This includes webkinz, pokeman cards, bakugan, etc.  Please make sure your child understands this rule.

1)  The students need to be recording in their reading log each night.  They need to be reading grade appropriate books so that they can AR tests on these books at school.  I will collect the pages at the end of the nine weeks to check the number of pages they have read.

2)  If your child brings toys or cards from home to play with at recess, the school is not responsible.  Some kids are bringing things and them trying to trade them at recess.  I just wanted the parents to know what is going on.

Please help your child with work they bring home that they do not understand.  This is very important to the learning process as we cannot spend class time on this.

I am truly enjoying teaching your children.  They have really come along way in only 5 weeks.  Please remember to continue to remind them to be responsible for their homework and for bringing the needed materials home. 

I have been talking to the students about their reading response project.  I think most of them have made a choice about what to do.  If not the directions are in the orange folder I sent home at the beginning of the year and they are to use a book they have read outside of class.

Our upcoming curriculum:

Reading-  We are going to begin a novel study on Sideways Arithmetic from A Wayside School. 

Social Studies- We have begun our study on Early Americans and Native Americans.  Ask your child to tell you about some of the legends we have been reading.

Math-  The students did great on the chapter 2 math test.  We are now beginning a unit on Graphing and Organizing Data.

Spelling-  Next week our spelling words are special, ran, full, town, and complete.  We take a prestest Monday and then the children know which words to study. The patterns we will be focusing on this week are the spellings for the -ou sound.  Ask your child to tell you some of the many words we came up with this week that were spelled with the -j sound including Georgia.

Hello.  I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.  I just wanted to remind you of a few upcoming dates. 

September 16- Early  Release

September 22-  Reading Response due.  Your child can now begin working on their first reading response on a book they have read at home.  You will find the choices in the orange folder that was sent home.

I will give you a quick update on our curriculum also.

Math- We are going to have  a test on Tues. on Chapter 2 and then we will begin graphing and organizing data. 

Social Studies-  We are beginning a new unit on early explorers and Native Americans.

Writing- Please ask your child to tell you about the story they have been writing in class.

Spelling-  I just wanted you to know that your child will only bring home spelling words in their agenda if they miss words on the pretest.
