This year, we will be using SpellingCity.com in our classroom. SpellingCity is a website that helps students learn their weekly spelling words while having fun at the same time. We will put up my weekly spelling lists on SpellingCity and your children can review the words, and play spelling games with their words to reinforce the learning process. Here’s how to help your child master his or her spelling words:
Simply go to www.spellingcity.com to see how the site works. To get started, click on “Find a List,” search by Username, and enter jennifersmith (no spaces). Then find the UNIT 1 list and try the Teach, Test, or Games link. The lists will appear and your child can immediately start using it to practice his or her words. Many kids enjoy building their spelling skills with Spelling City. Please encourage your children to spend about 15-20 minutes each on Monday and Thursday evenings to review prior to the weekly formative assessments. We suggest using the Teach Me and/or Play a Game links on Monday and using the Test Me link on Thursday.
Every Monday, you will receive this letter, indicating which unit your child should be working. Please sign below and write the activities that your child completed on both Monday and Thursday. This will be our way of documenting homework completion; so please keep this letter in your child’s homework folder at all times. We will collect it on Friday.
