It’s addition time! To help our students improve their basic addition skills and to meet the school improvement goal, we’ll be beginning our “Ice Cream for Addition” competition on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Tests will be administered each Wednesday and Friday. Students will earn a part of their banana splits after achieving at least 90% in 7 minutes on their timed addition tests. More specifically, students will earn the following:
-0/1: napkin
-2: bowl
-3: banana
-4: ice cream scoop
-5: ice cream scoop
-6: ice cream scoop
-7: topping
-8: whipped cream
-9: cherry
-10: certificate of completion
Students should practice the breakdown of facts on First in Math playing Fact Practice Gyms and on the review sheets that were given to you. (Please make copies.)
Students who achieve their goals prior to the date of the party will work toward mastering 100 mixed addition facts in 7 minutes. After passing this assessment three times, they will begin working on subtraction and then on multiplication.
The date of the “Ice Cream for Addition” banana split party is prior to the winter break (date and time TBA); so please utilize the attached practice master. Happy studying!
