As teachers, it is our responsibility to continually assess your children so that we gain insight into students' needs of reteaching and / or challenging. In alignment with the current standards based report card, students receive either a:
1: did not meet standard
2: progressing toward standard
3: meets standard
3+: exceeds standard (given only for specific standards)
In your children's Thursday folders, you will see graded assignments that have been checked or given a 1, 2, or 3. If the assessment is formative ("form" for short), then know that it is a practice test and WILL NOT count toward your child's report card. However, if it is a summative assessment ("sum" for short), then that grade is used in the determination of the report card grade.
If your children are consistently bringing home papers less than a 3, then they need additional practice both at home and at school. With two teachers in the classroom, we have more capability of helping to meet the students' needs and will do everything in our power to help them be successful!
