No Assignment Sheet Today

Homewrk Due to our returning at 2:05 from the field trip today, there was not enough time to write on our assignment sheets; therefore there is no need to sign your child's assignment sheet for 10-1-08. However, your child DOES have homework. He or she is should complete the 3-2-1 sheet from New Echota.

A HUGE thank you is extended to Mrs. O'Shea and Mrs. Parkey for chaperoning. We appreciate your help!

What We're Learning

Luvskool_2 We've been busy in school and hope that your child gives you insight into our school day. Here's what we're currently learning. During our Math R.A.P. (Review and Practice), we'll use the Promethean Board to practice counting money in a fun, interactive way (M2N1c). During the math lessons, we've been introduced to 2-digit addition with regrouping. Using base ten blocks will give us a more concrete understanding of this difficult skill. Furthermore, listening to the read aloud, A Fair Bear Share, will be a fun way to review. We'll conclude our study with a partner game that utilizes spinners to help master this skill (M2N2)

In reading, we're continuing our literacy centers (i.e. stamping spelling words, creating flip books of narrative elements (ELA2R4a-l), using KidPix to create a computerized picture, etc.) as well as working toward mastering synonyms and antonyms. We'll be introduced to the Thesaurus to help us design a Synonyms/Antonyms book (ELA2R3a-d and ELA2W1v,t). During this time, we'll also look at homophones and how they relate to the story we're reading call Truman's Aunt Farm (ELA2R4a-l).

Rotating through four different language arts centers to help us understand declarative and interrogative sentences has been a fun way to socialize with peers while engaging in learning. Declarative and interrogative are big words, but through engaging in lessons on the Promethean Board, highlighting such sentences in magazines, using photographs to write such sentences, and classifying precut sentences, we are on our way to mastering this skill (ELAW1r,s)!

In our shift from Science to Social Studies, we've enjoyed learning about the Creek Indians' culture. We'll set up our classroom to resemble a Creek village and "walk" the various areas of the village. In addition, we'll celebrate the Green Corn Festival by "cleaning" the village and eating popcorn cakes (use your imagination--smile). Finally, we'll create Creek clothing as a backdrop for information where we write about the Creeks' food and uses of plants (SS2H1a). We LOVE learning!

Family Journals This Week

Pointer Your child has brought home his or her Family Journal on Friday, September 12. Please remember to respond, in writing, to your child in the Family Journal and return it to school by Thursday, September 18. Don't forget to model neat handwriting (smile). Thank you for ALL you do. We appreciate you so much!

COMPLIMENT Party

Partyballoon As a reward for earning behavior compliments, the students have selected a pajama party. Therefore on Tuesday, September 16, your child may wear his or her pajamas and bring slippers and a small stuffed animal to school. Due to P.E. on the same day, it is imperative that your child wear tennis shoes to school and bring slippers. We'll also celebrate our accomplishments with a small tasty treat. Yum!

Field Trip

Fieldtrp Please remember to send in, as soon as possible, your $10 (enclosed in the white payment envelope) and the red permission slip for the New Echota (Cherokee Reservation) field trip on October 2. If you're interested in chaperoning the field trip, please add an additional $2 and send a note in writing to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Brown indicating that you will be attending with your child. We welcome any and all parents; however younger siblings are unable to accompany us. Thank you for understanding.

Early Dismissal Tuesday
