Dear Parents,
As October winds down, we look ahead to a very busy November. Students in Mrs. DeLass's homeroom will be creating a special power point presentation for our Grandparents and Special Friend's luncheon. Please let your child know who will be attending this luncheon with them. They will need this information to create an accurate power point. Our scheduled luncheon time is November 18th at 11:55. Parents, grandparents, and/or friends are invited to the classroom at 11:35 for the presentation, with lunch to follow. A reservation form will be coming home soon in the Thursday folder.
Next week, The Patchwork Quilt, by Valerie Flournoy will be read to both Mrs. DeLass's and Mrs. Hazlett's class. Students will bring home a letter asking for a quilt square donation. The completed quilt will be sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Northside Hospital to a worthy recipient over the holidays. We look forward to this project every year and brightening the hopes of a sick child and their family during the holidays. Please watch for more information next week regarding this project.
Baby pictures for the 2011-12 yearbook have been slow in coming in. Please remember to send baby pictures in. Information on this was sent home two weeks ago.
Immigration Day/Ellis Island is planned for November 29th. Students in both classes will be expected to complete a family tree by the 29th. This is a wonderful time for students to learn more about their family, culture and heritage. Please spend some time helping your child to create a wonderful keepsake. Students will also be required to learn and recite a poem about ancestors. Students should not delay practicing this poem. Both the immigration packet and poem choices will come home in this week's Thursday communication folder.
Spelling words are in student agendas. Plan on a spelling assessment next Monday.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at conferences this week.
Mrs. DeLass
