Have a Great Summer!

Dear Parents,

Now that the school year is over and I've had a chance to reflect, I want to tell you how great it was to work with your children this year.  You have helped to make my first year at Garrison Mill very enjoyable and I am looking forward to many more.  Your children have grown up in so many ways and before you know it, they'll be graduating from high school.  Believe me, it goes by fast, so treasure every moment and milestone.

They have learned many things:  what pi means, that "brung" is not a word, that it is "May I go to the bathroom?", not "Can I go to the bathroom," and numerous other things.  But if they take one thing from my classroom at all, I hope it is the fact that it doesn't matter how smart you are, what really matters is Attitude and Effort.  If you always try your best, you will succeed.

Thanks for all your support this year.  We had some great guest readers, a wonderful room mom, a great holiday party, and the knowledge that our parents are concerned, caring and genuinely care about our education.  Thank You!  Stay in touch and have a great summer!

Wrapping it Up!

First - a very special thank you for the wonderful teacher appreciation gift.  The "Summer Bag" filled with goodies that I enjoy, gift cards and more was most appreciated.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you and your children this year.

The students have numerous performances and privileges to attend to in the last week. Grades will be finalized early. Any makeup work will be due by the 19th.

Vaccinations are still not current for all students.  Please get them in as soon as possible.

End of the year celebration is Friday evening from 6:00-8:00.  I would personally like to invite all the fifth grade parents.  My "Hand Jive" group will be performing a special sign language tribute to all the parents.  We have been working diligently on this for the past few months and would love to have an audience and express our appreciation for our wonderful parents in a unique and touching way.

5th Grade picnic has been changed to the 21st from 12:15 - 1pm. Students will have a sack lunch (hamburgers and hot dogs) compliments of Mrs. Wilson along with a soda and ice cream. If it rains it will be held in the covered play area. Parents usually do not participate in this event. It is simply an extra 15 minutes of socialization for the kids outdoors.

Our Field Day is the 15th. Sunscreen, Hats. Water will be provided.

5th grade Luncheon money is due by Thursday the 15th. Please send in $15 for your child and one adult to attend the luncheon. The reception afterward is open for the enjoyment of another adult or family member also. The Luncheon is on the 22nd.

Decades Days - we are the FIFTIES!  We still need artifacts and clothing for the decade.  Send in what you can and double check with your child to see if they have appropriate clothing for the decade.

The Walk of Honor is at 1:45 on the 23rd. Please do not come to the classroom prior to the event. Mrs. DeLass will be spending our last moments of quiet reflection with the students at that time.

Email any questions or concerns about grades by the 22nd please.

Wow!  I can't believe how fast the days are going by.  The students had a great time tie-dying t-shirts yesterday.  They turned out great!  We have a ton of things going on in the classroom and around school.

We are working hard on our Decades Day projects.  Students may want to do additional research at home.  The public library can help also.  Please ask your child what their topics are.

I may be insane, but I am going to offer to make poodle skirts for the girls that would like one for our Decade presentation.  If you are interested, purchase 72 inch wide felt of the color of your choice.  I will go to the fabric store today to check on the amount needed, but I think 1 yard would probably suffice.  I'll also check out poodle appliques.  If you buy the needed items, I'll make them, but I must have the fabric next week, no later than next Friday (the 9th).

As you can see, we are very busy.  We are planning lots of fun events, but learning is still taking place.  Students should have completed or be completing a chapter book of their choice that they will be writing a book review on.  Please make sure your child has either finished this book, or is reading diligently to get it finished.  I appreciate all your help at this busy time.

IMPORTANT!

I forgot to include that Poetry books are due this Friday, April 4th.  If your child will be absent on Friday, I expect the book on Thursday.  It will NOT be accepted after Spring Break.  Most students have been working on their poetry book for 2 weeks.  As of last Friday, there were still a few that had not even started.  Please make sure your child has begun this project.
