Garrison Mill School Counseling Program
Mission:
Our mission is to provide a safe, caring environment in which children will be encouraged to succeed and become productive members of society. Our school counseling program will provide opportunities for all students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for lifelong learning in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development.
Philosophy:
The GM school counselors believe:
· in the dignity and worth of each student and staff member at Garrison Mill, as well as the parents of these students and those who live in the community at large.
· all students should be accepted as capable individuals who, through encouragement from parents, peers, staff, and community, will become productive members of society.
· each student has a right to learn in a safe, caring environment and to be given the opportunity to succeed and to reach his/her full potential.
· every student should have access to the services provided by the school counseling program.
The GM school counseling program should:
· be aligned with the ASCA standards and student competencies for all students in Kindergarten – 5th grade.
· be planned and coordinated by the professional school counselors in collaboration with representatives of the school community.
· utilize available community resources when appropriate for program support and delivery.
· use data to drive program development and evaluation.
· be evaluated by administration on specified school counseling program goals.
The GM school counselors will:
· adhere to the ethical standards of the ASCA and the Cobb County School District.
· participate in professional development opportunities that support the goals of the school counseling program.
