As part of our Beyond the Magnifying Glassunit students have been introduced to the very mysterious Harris Burdick. It seems Mr. Burdick wrote and illustrated some children's stories long ago. However, Mr. Burdick disappeared leaving only some of his intriguing illustrations, but none of their accompanying stories. Our class has been busy creating and publishing our own stories to go along with Mr. Burdick's illustrations. Look for these stories to be displayed in the hallway soon.
Students have also been introduced to another mystery. We have begun a novel study on Chasing Vermeer. So far we have meet two children, Petra and Calder, and we know of some very mysterious unsigned letters being left at the homes of three yet to be identified people. Somehow the story will involve the famous artist, J. Vermeer. As pentominoes play a part in the story, we have been investigating these, as well. Ask your child to share with you what the 12 pentomino shapes are and see if you can use them to form a rectangle.
