In the fall of last year, 101 students received the National Fitness Award and 16 students received the Presidential Fitness Award. Students were tested again in the Spring and 142 achieved the National Fitness Level, while 54 achieved the Presidential Fitness Level. Great improvement was seen in all students, and we look forward to seeing similar improvements this year!

It was so good to see the students again and hear about their summer. We always like to welcome students back by introducing new games and activities. Hopefully, students had fun and learned something new their first week. Students received forms that would inform us of any health concerns while in P.E. class. If you have not already turned your health form in, please send it in with your student as soon as possible.

This year our annual school “FUN RUN” will take place on the same evening as the Fall Festival, on Friday, October 3. All students will have the opportunity to compete in the design for this year's Fun Run T-Shirt, which will be judged by members of our faculty at Garrison Mill. The winner will be presented with the first T-Shirt on T.V. during announcements along with other prizes. We had a record breaking fund-raiser last year and a record number of students competing. We are planning even more activities for this year with hopes of even more participation of students and involvement of parents. In the weeks ahead we will gradually increase the distance of our runs in class and encourage students to also take advantage of home opportunities to prepare for the event. Students with asthma or other health-related concerns may need to be reminded of their limitations. Be advised, if students forget inhalers or exhibit any signs of concern we will have no choice but to request they stop participating (safety first).

Our Presidential/National Fitness Test takes place during the same time period just before the FUN RUN. Be on the lookout for your child’s test results, which will be given to the students upon completion. We had 16 students who achieved Presidential Fitness and 101 National Fitness Levels in the Fall of 2007. In the Spring of 2008 we had 54 students who achieved Presidential Fitness Awards and 142 who achieved National Awards on their fitness level. We were so proud of these students and more importantly the ones who made great improvement but fell a little short on the test. We couldn’t have been any prouder of these students for their successes.
