Mrs.Alvarado’s Class News Friday, Oct.7th
Dear Parents,
We have had so much fun learning about the early explorers this week! There are some funny stories known about the explorers! The class had fun learning the stories and sharing them with the class! Take a look at next week:
Social Studies- This Thursday a study guide went home for Chapter 3. We will be having a Social Studies test Tuesday on Chapter 3. If they know the information on the study guide they will do a great job on the test!
Science- We will be starting a unit on Simple Machines, Forces, and Motion on Wednesday. That is Chapters 5 and 6 in the book.
Reading- We are still reading Encyclopedia Brown. The class is doing a great job with comprehension and sentence structure. Next week our focus lessons will be on sequencing, comparing/contrasting, character traits, story elements, and vocabulary.
Spelling- r-influenced o in accented syllables.
Grammar- We worked on picking out object and subject pronouns this week. Next week we will be learning about possessive pronouns and homophones.
Writer’s Workshop- We wrote many fun stories this week about explorers! Next week we will be returning to our 6-Traits lessons. We just started the trait of “organization”. We will be using a timeline to write each student’s history. We will also talk about using transition words to help organize our writing.
Math- We are working on long multiplication in Chapter 7. Many students need to review their basic multiplication facts. It is hard to accurately work long multiplication problems without knowing the basic facts. We will finish Chapter 7 with a test on Thursday. Chapter 8 teaches multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits.
Have a great weekend! The football matchups this weekend look exciting! Mrs.A
